Nest Hub is not identified as a Matter Hub

I have a Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) which has been used as a Matter Hub a few months ago.

Now I when I try to connect a Matter Smart Lock to it, it is not being recognized as a hub as I get the error "You need a hub for Matter to set up and control with Google Home" but I already have one. How should I fix it?

Hi @poonam

There seems to be a discrepancy with your Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) not being recognized as a Matter Hub despite it working previously. Here are some steps you can try to fix this situation:

  1. Restart Nest Hub and Smart Lock:
  • A simple restart can sometimes resolve glitches. Power cycle both your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) and the Matter Smart Lock by following the manufacturer's instructions.
  1. Check App and Firmware Updates:
  • Ensure you're using the latest versions of the Google Home app and the firmware on your Nest Hub. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.
  1. Verify Matter Compatibility:
  1. Re-add Nest Hub as Matter Hub:
  • In the Google Home app, try removing your Nest Hub as a Matter Hub and then re-adding it. This might refresh the connection and allow the Matter Smart Lock to recognize it.
  1. Factory Reset Nest Hub (Last Resort):
  • If none of the above work, consider a factory reset on your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) as a last resort. This will erase all settings and data, so be sure to back up any important information beforehand. Instructions for factory reset can be found in the Google Home app or following this manual.

Try those steps and please let us know if you were able to fix it.

All the best,

Josh
