Nest speaker does not announce tasks / reminders

BitcoinZAR
Community Member

Hello,

I want the nest mini speaker to remind me of tasks in Google calendar such as daily medication.
I can use the speaker to create the reminder, I set name, date and time etc. perfectly.
The problem is when the time arrives, I get a notification on my Android phone, and NOT the speaker.
I want the notification to be an audible one on the speakers.

If I go into Google Home on my Android phone and check the settings of the speaker I can verify that the Google Assistant Personal results setting is ON, and Voice Match is ON.
How do I get the speaker to give the notification instead of just receiving it on my phone?

I meant account ...
And I use Google hub with screen, not the mini version. I got 3 of them, none of them announce the tasks anymore even if they are set correctly and updated instantly on my computer's google task list ...

Known issue...filed 3 different tickets and was told they were working on it.....then told after months of waiting & over 3 dozen feedback's through the app and device that they need to file it as a bug....not sure why that wasn't the first thing that was done in my opinion.

same. i'm on ticket number 2 and feedback 178 and being ignored by the thiefbots

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with the reminders on Google Displays. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Based on the information you shared with us, I would like to recommend that you check all the tasks that you already created and remove all from your account. Once you clear all the history of reminders, you can factory reset devices again and try to set up the reminders again. I will let you know how to check all the reminders below.

You can create, edit, mark complete, or delete reminders on the screen. You can access reminders with either of these options:

Once you clear all the reminders that are not working or that you don't want to use anymore, you can follow the next step to correctly set up reminders: Set & manage Google Tasks with Google assistant

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin

Why was my post merged with this post? No offense. I’d like it to return to its original state. Still no solution as I’m typing this.

I tried removing the existing reminder and did a factory reset and sill its the same issue with reminders. I am talking about reminders and not alarms. My alarms works fine.

I have three Google home mini smart speakers (two gen 1 and on gen 2, I believe).  They have stopped announcing reminders like "remind me at 10am to go to the store." I have rebooted the router and speaker in my office, to no avail.  I have removed the office speaker from my home group and added it back. Nothing has worked to restore reminder functionality.  Any ideas? Thanks, Edgar

I am also having this issue on My Nest Mini 2nd Gen.

Thanks for telling me. Maybe some other folks can test setting a notification reminder to see if it works. On my Android phone with Gemini enabled, I told the phone to remind me at 10:05 am to go to the store. It orally acknowledged the reminder being set, but it said nothing at 10:05. I don't care about the cellphone announcing stuff... I only care about the smart speakers.

My pleasure. I am actually speaking w/ Google as I type this and told them it's a widespread issue here and Reddit as of recently....hoping this can be resolved and not go on for a year like other issues we have dealt with on these devices.

Wonderful, Craig.... thanks SO much!

My pleasure...sorry you are also going through this.

Still awaiting a resolution from Google on the phone again as I type all this..lol. I have updated my ticket w/ them and the issue seems to stem from their most recent update from the Google Home App. My issue started again about 4 days ago, exactly when the update pushed through on my phone according to Google Play. It seems the update came out about Nov 6.

Sorry but 100% chance it will not work...it's future reminders that are to be created not past ones that were already created. Already reset everything on my end and still have the issue. Plus you gave info on how to set alarms not create tasks/reminders.

I already have a ticket w/ Tech support so I'll let them fumble this. Waited over a year to have the popping sound stop (along w/ 1000's of others), waited over a year for reminders to be fixed the 1st time and seems others have been waiting since Sept to have this particular reminder/task issue fixed.

Hi CraigM313,

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Let's work together for a solution.

Before I consult the case, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  1. What is the firmware version?
  2. What is your case number created with tech support?
  3. Please list me all the troubleshooting steps that you already tried.

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

This is not my post so I do not wish to hijack it any further. I have done any and all trouble shooting possible and just heard back from senior support. This is a known issue that the engineers need to solve not anyone here.

Hey Dworsky,

Hope you are doing well. I think Kevin might have been on to something w/ his reply regarding "alarms"...lol. After some fierce searching on Google I found a Reddit post for a workaround from 7 months ago (not perfect but at least something workable).

Use a named alarm instead. Where the "name" is your reminder message.

Example: Say "set an alarm called/named Coffee is done". Then follow prompts. When the alarm rings it will ring while telling you the name of the alarm, which is actually a decent reminder. If you initially miss what is said just ask "what's this called" and it will tell you as well.

Disclaimer: Wont send to phone (not a task/reminder) & It can be pretty noisy..but shouldn't be a deal breaker unless you need to use it at like 6 am. Best of luck

whelp...looks like Google removed the functionality of this as well (didn't work tonight for me when it did since Saturday)....you gotta be kidding me 😂,  so disregard the above post.

Craig... Good news. I think because of other publicity about Google smart speaker/device failures the past few days, the REMINDER feature is once again working!  Thanks for your help and guidance on this.

only for single reminders. ones that repeat don't work the 2nd time

The Google Home Nest Hub Max is not reminding me of any reminder that I set up with it. I have to ask it to show me my reminders and it tells me of past ones and future upcoming ones.

I have tried unlinking from the home account and resetting the device to no avail.

Please send help

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your Nest Hub Max that is not reminding you of the reminders that you set up. I understand how frustrating it can be when things do not work as expected.
In this case, we recommend you check your tasks and delete some of the ones that are already done to make sure that the system is not full of data. After that, try to set some new tasks and see how that works.
Please keep me posted and let me know how that goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Jenny

No tasks in the history, still no reminders.

Hi MrR1,

Thanks for your reply. In this case, if you check the tasks and there are no results, you can try the next steps to check if the reminders are set up correctly. Please attempt the following steps:
Make sure the personal results are on:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Make sure the mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account.
  3. Tap Settings, then Google Assistant, and Personal results.
  4. Follow the in-app steps.

This is to prevent others from accessing reminders, linking a Google Account, and voice to the speaker or display.
With the reminder, you could use voice commands on your Google Nest Hub Max. Try these voice commands:
Create a time-based reminder

  • Say Okay Google or Hey Google, then: Remind me to <title> <date> <time>.

Create a recurring reminder:

  • Say Okay Google or Hey Google, then: Remind me to <action> <frequency> <time>.

Ask about a reminder:

  1. What are my reminders?
  2. What are my reminders for tomorrow?
  3. When is my reminder to <title>?

Delete a single or all reminders:

  1. Delete my reminders for tomorrow.
  2. Delete reminder to <title>.
  3. Delete all of my reminders.

Please keep me posted and let me know how that goes after checking this information. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Jenny

Hello Jenny,

I'm not sure what the "In-app steps" are in step 4, but the settings for the hub max are that personal results is turned on and that they appear proactively.

I've done all the steps above and the hub max creates, informs me about (when asked), and deletes the reminders correctly, but when the reminder time comes the hub max does not say the reminder outloud nor does it display it on the screen, I just get a notification on my phone.

Kind regards

MrR1

Hi MrR1,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that after the steps above, the Nest Hub Max is still not giving you the reminders. About the question about the in-app steps: you have to follow the steps that the Google Home app is showing you to finish the setup for the reminders; this selection is going to be depending on your preference. I just need to ask for some information to get more details about the situation that you are facing:

  • Are your reminders set up on the main Nest Hub Max device?
  • Are you setting up the reminders in a particular app?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,
Jenny

I am setting up all reminders using the main nest hub max device, I am not using any other app to set them up.
