Nest speaker says "pausing" instead of broadcasting.

Whenever I try to broadcast to my son's room it says it is "Pausing" the room.  I have done a factory reset on my nest Max I was broadcasting from as well as the mini he has in his room.  I have already reset my router and all of the other normal steps.  What I have found is if I rename it from "Griffin's room" and change it to "Griffin's Speaker" it works if I say the new name "I.e. broadcast to Griffin's speaker".  If I change it back it says "Pausing Griffin's room" again.  Nothing else is called "Griffin's room" and the other devices he has are all lights and smart switches.  Non can be "Paused"  Even his room is called "Griffin's Bedroom".

When you look at your activity in the Home app, does it show that it understood the word broadcast or did it understand the word pause?

It understands it as broadcast.  The google Max display shows the words it is interpreting and shows "broadcast" and instead of asking for the message says it responds as "pausing".

That also would not explain how it works consistently when I rename the device.

Devices are placed in rooms. Like for example my office chromecast is on the room called office. What is the name of the room that the speaker is on? I'm wondering if that is creating some sort of conflict.

I thought the same thing.  It was originally in a room named "Griffin's Room".  I deleted that room and created a new one called "Griffin's Bedroom".  It made no difference.  I even verified the names of all other smart devices in that room.  Non are named "Griffin's room".   Additionally, my other son has one also called "Colin's room" and it works just fine.

Again though, if I drop the "room" in the name or change it to anything else, broadcasting works.

As a note, this worked fine for over a year, it just started failing in the last few months.  The only change to his room was the addition of Phillips smart light bulbs which are not named "room"

Oh and "Colin's room" google mini is in a room named "Colin's room" and has no issues

I have this exact same issue. I have to remove Room from Wyatt's Room to just Wyatt to get it to broadcast otherwise it just pauses the speaker.

Yeah, it seems like a code problem somewhere.  Atleast the workaround seems to work consistently.

Thanks for visiting the Community.

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing on using broadcast on your Google Nest speakers. May we know since when did you experience this? Can anyone here send a short video clip of what's happening so we can replicate this issue from our end?

Lastly, please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers that you're having issues with.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Looking forward to your responses.

Sorry, I missed the 1st message.   I have the video as well as the information screen from both the source device (Kitchen display) and the target (Griffin's room). you can see the display understands the words as it display's "Broadcast to Griffin's room" but the response does not match.

The video and other info is in this shared album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/urXCxXfx4uqTKfvv5
