New Nest Mini 2nd Gen, i3 broadband and iPhone 12 - can't connect

I recently moved and when I did, I decided to get i3 broadband for my internet service.  I am connected to my wifi network at home, and i have an iPhone 12.

took the nest mini out of the box, and got all the way in set up to connecting and it keeps saying something went wrong.

i was on the phone with my internet provider over an hour troubleshooting, since the fiber delivery has 2.4 and 5.0ghz, tech watched on his end "steering" the mini to connect to the wifi at 2.4ghz, it would say "connected" then immediately say something is wrong.

i have factory reset my mini, removed and added google home app, removed and added wifi, restarted and rebooted every device.

i had a similar issue with an Apple home pod and literally wasted an entire day troubleshooting.  i went with google since my new home had a previously installed nest thermometer.

please help!!

Hey lucyo912,

I see. That's the reason why you're having issues setting up the device on a mobile hotspot. I suggest you contact your network provider so they can check the settings on your router, make sure that settings are compatible with the Google Nest Mini.

Below are the settings that you need to check:

  • Disable Access Point (AP) or client isolation
  • Disable MAC address filtering.
  • Disable VPN or proxy server

Keep us posted.

Hey lucyo912,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to know that you're having issues connecting your Google Nest Mini to your network. To confirm, do you have other Google Nest/Home devices working on the same network? Please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Nest Mini).

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

i did try that.  i connected via my hot spot, and then i received the error message "please connect to iphone, you are currently not on the same wifi network as your device"

when i activate my hotspot, i go to data on my phone.

Hey lucyo912,

Understood! To confirm, did you use 2 separate devices to set up your speaker? Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Nest Mini).

While you set up the device on mobile hotspot, please turn on airport mode of the device you use to setup your speaker to make sure that it's just connecting to the mobile hotspot.

Let me know if that works.
