No firmware option for nest mini

AlainElshout
Community Member

So my problem is twofold.

  • Firstly no option to select updates firmware automatically available in my "home"
  • Secondly both my nest minis are running different firmware and different cast firmware and neither are the current versions.

I run android  V 14 with March 5th update

As long as your speakers are connected to Wi-Fi and the Internet, they should automatically update. You don't need to do anything and there is no feature or setting to update them manually.

I understand that, however both speakers have different firmware and neither is up to date?

All connected to WiFi not sure where to go from here.

You're welcome to try restarting or even factory resetting them if you'd like, there isn't much you can do other than that I'm afraid.

Thank you David.

I have tried both these options and no success 😔.

Starting to think it time to go away from the Google environment now.

Hi AlainElshout,

I understand you're concerned about the firmware on your two Nest Minis. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If the firmware versions differ between your devices, it's important to ensure both are updated successfully. Firmware updates typically take up to 10 minutes. If the update takes much longer, you can check the LED status to see if your speaker is still updating. While updating, the light will be white and slowly spin.

  • Reboot your Nest Mini: Unplug it from power for one minute, then plug it back in. This will restart the update process.

  • Factory reset (if update fails): If the update fails repeatedly, reset your Nest Mini to factory settings and set it up again. Preferably use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network if available.

Once both devices have completed the update process, you can follow these steps to verify their firmware versions: Check the firmware version of your speaker or display.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Angel

There is nothing we as customers can do to force Google Nest to push a firmware update out to our Google Nest devices. It's been a chronic complaint for years.

Thank you for your response Angel.

I have tried both those options before, but at no stage do the nest minis even try to update there is also no option to trigger a manual update.

Could you please elaborate on how to actually update the firmware?

Hi AlainElshout,

I understand that you need to update both Nest Mini devices, and I am sorry that the previous steps did not resolve the situation.

Please make sure that both devices are powered via the provided power cable via a wall outlet.

  1. Make sure your speakers are connected to the internet for at least 24 hours.
  2. Reboot your Nest Minis by unplugging them from power for one minute, then plugging them back in.
  3. Check the firmware version again.
  4. If the device is still on an older firmware version, please fill out this form to get further information and find additional solutions.

Let us know if there is any additional question.

Regards,

Angel
