Hi febb,

We’re truly sorry for the inconvenience! The higher tier support is doing the best for a resolution. In line with this, could you confirm if the time is fixed on your Nest devices? If still the same, do a sequential reboot first to have them refreshed:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest devices.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Thanks.

My Nest Hub devices are already on the correct time in Mexico City.  But, the Chromecasts and Google TV devices are still not showing the correct time if set to "get the time from the network" (that is, automatic time setting based on location).    I can certainly set the time manually, but I would prefer it to be auto-setting.

I'd expect some firmware update con the Chromecast devices is needed for this. Looking forward to getting it.

Hello febb,

Thanks for letting us know about what's going on with your devices. Our team is already working on a fix for the Chromecast and Google TV devices. For now, I'll merge your post with the main thread of this issue, so you'll be informed once an update is given.

Thanks,
Lovely

Its 2023-May-23rd:  Five minutes ago, I did this with my Google Chromecast 4K /  Google TV device.

1.- Check the time: It was OK

2.- Changed the time for the device to obtain the time from the network:  Got the WRONG time (1 hr ahead).  Also cheked that the time zone was correctly set, it was: Mexico City
3.- Changed back the time setting to manual and corrected the time.

4.- Checked if there was new firmware available, there was none and the device is on the latest available firmware.

5.- Rebooted the device.

6.- Did again steps 1 to 4 above.  Same results. TIME IS STILL WRONG AND the device is not able to set the time correctly is it is configured to obtain the time from the network.

Whats up with you Google. Can't you really fix this issue?  It's been months since we (many many users) reported this issue with your devices.

Please, fix this.   Thanks.

I am having the exact same issue. Actually just came back to check the forum to make sure I'm not the only one!

On Sunday, 30 October 2022 the Mexican government decided to abolish Daylight Savings Time in most of Mexico (the country) except for a few locations.  When the day came that the time should have changed (move time one hour ahead), many of your devices in fact changed hour when they should have not ! ...  This is understandable as they probably had old internal time zone tables where DST time change was required.   In most of the devices that suffered the problem, an update with the new time zone tables was enough to fix the issue.

On your Chromecast 4K with Google TV devices, the problem IS Still there if it is configred to set the time automatically from the network.  Time gets set one hour ahead of the actual real time.  But the problem doesn't stop there.  Because of this, then the device can't connect to the configured Internet wireless link and everything becomes unusable.    This happens specially if there is a power failure and when everything comes back, nothing works.

This has been reported by many people in your forums and the solution to this problem has not been released.  This is a totally unresponsible  attitude from you, Google.   Why are you letting down your users and customers?

Many people, elders (as my 83 years old mum), depend on your gizmos to watch TV and entertain themselves, and devices and setup that should work flawlessly noe, they have become unreliable and useless because of your negligence of not releasing a firmware update with the bug fix for this Chromecast devices.   Not acceptable at all.

This should be a very easy fix and then a firmware update release.  Why are you not doing it ?

Let alone that , you also dare to close all discussions in the support forums that deal with this issue, despite that it's been reported since many months ago and there are no news from your part about a fix release... just excuses and apologies that take us nowhere.

Again, Google, please FIX your Chromecast devices that have a wrong time setup and management. Make sure time zones are correct according to the latest IANA time zone tables  (www.iana.org/time-zones) and of course, ensure that it works when time device is rebooted or reset.  Many, many people around the world would appreciate this.

Thanks in advance.  I look forward to  your comments on this matter.

Hello I am from Egypt and have the same problem where nest 2nd generation displays a time one hour before but says the right time. This happened after dst. Interestingly nest first generation displays the right time. Any fix

These issues would be avoided if we could set the time zone ourselves, and if time wasn't pulled from a regularly inaccurate maps API.

Hello:

All Nest hub devices are with the time for Mexico City correctly set.  But  Chromecast 4K / Google TV devices,  if on settings the "Use network provided time" is turned ON, then the time for Mexico City is wrongly set ONE hour ahead of the actual real current time.  Of course the TIME zone is correctly set to "Mexico City" and I made a check for new firmware, which there was none.

The problem still persists for Chromecast devices.

Please do not close this issue as the problem is still present in this devices.  Thanks.

I'm now having the same issue, but I live in indiana. I'm on central time, and everything has been correct up until today when it displays one hour ahead. If you "ask google" the time it's correct, it's just the displayed time. I changed my location to Colorado which is one hour behind and it showed the correct time for there. Switch back and right back to one hour ahead. Did a factory reset then new setup...boom, hour ahead. It's actually starting to piss me off

I have the same problem on EGYPT and no reply from google

I'm in the USA and this problem just started on my hub this weekend. I primarily use my device as a clock so this renders it useless.

I've rebooted and factory reset the device itself. Restarted my phone and internet. No help

I've confirmed my address is correct, I've deleted my home and created a new one, I've done every little scavenger hunt of a trick that I've seen on these threads. Nothing.

This has been incredibly frustrating. I can ask Google for the time and it tells me the correct time, but the display is still wrong.

If this isn't fixed soon I'm going to get rid of all my google devices and switch to Amazon devices because at least they have simple user interfaces to correct problems (if they were to have any) and they tell you the right time.

Same problem in Egypt!

The problem persists in many Google Chromecast and with many Google Nest devices: Time is wrong in the timezone de devices are set at.  Many months with this issues and Google is not solving the bugs albeit it compromises updating the timezones tables in the firmware in the affected device.

It happens that I own a Google Chromecast with Googlr TV 4K  model GA01919-US, its current firmware version is: STTE.230319.008.H1 (4K). (latest, as far as I know). Whenever I set the time to auto-update from the network AND the timezone as MEXICO CITY, then, the time get set wrong. One hour ahead of the actual real time in that city.  Let me state that DST was recently abolished in Mexico by the government so, there is no more DST (except for some very specific cities in Mexico, but certainly NOT in Mexico City).   If the device has the feature to set pretty much any time zone, and certainly "Mexico City's TZ is there", it should set the time correctly it is not doing that. So, the most obvious thing that must be happening is that the internal time zone tables of the device are not up to date with the published IANA Timezone Tables or Database:  https://www.iana.org/time-zones

What is even worse, if the power fails and the device gets rebooted, then since it is set to auto-update time and a wrong time gets set, it would not connect to the Internet and thus, it becomes absolutely useles.

One of the current users of that device is my 83 year old mum who likes watching shows from that time zone (Mexico City) so, that is why the device is set that way.  Every time the power fails or something happens that the time is incorrect and the device can't connect to the network,  the Chromecast becomes a heavy-useless-paper-wight.

I am asking Google to fix those tables and release a new firmware that maybe reads them from IANA, that way the Chromecast would always be up to date with changes in timezones and it will become  a useful device again.

We got several Chromecasts With Google TV and all of them are in the same situation.  ALso, there are many persons who are reporting exactly the same bad behavior with different timezones as they are currently on those devices.  SO, Google needs to fix this and release a new fixed firmware as soon as possible.

This has been around since, at least October 2022 for the timezones I am interested in , but many also report failures in time related settings since way before.

I appreciate your time and interest in this bug and hopefully through your intervention, it can be promptly solved and make all of us happy again with our Google devices.

Kind regards.

Felipe
