"Sure, check out this music station on Youtube music"

Briankee
Community Member

I have a YouTube Premium (incl. YouTube Music) subscription and a small number of nest hubs and minis around the house.  I normally say "Hey Google, play some music" and it will play my likes/favourites, or ask it to play one of my playlists.  However, last night it doesn't seem to recognize my account as every device now just says "Sure, check out this music station on YouTube Music" and proceeds to play the same song.

Why is this happening?  Please tell me this isn't linked to reduced support from Google for certain functionality!

Hello Briankee,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

We're sorry to hear about this experience. This is actually strange since it used to be working with no issues before. Have you made any changes to your Google Nest's settings? Also, aside from you, are there other accounts linked to it? If no, let's try to retrain your voice and see if it works.

For a home in the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home and then Settings and then Google Assistant and then Voice Match and then Other devices.
    • If you have more than one home, tap the home you want to remove Voice Match from.
  3. Tap Remove Voice Match from the home and then Remove.

For a speaker or display

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home and then Settings and then Google Assistant and then Voice Match and then Other devices.
  3. Uncheck the box next to the device you want to turn off Voice Match for and then follow the steps.

As soon as you have deleted your voice, register again your voice and try the same commands you use for playing music on YouTube.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princesss,

I deleted the voice match and re-registered as described, but it has not fixed the issue.

I've had no issue with any of the devices understanding my commands, it's just as though it doesn't recognize my YT Music account.  I have not changed any settings so that cannot be the reason.

It won't even play one of my playlists without some variation of "Got it / Sure / Alright, check out this music station....".

I can view my cameras etc. without issue, so this seems to be related to YT Music.  Is there a helpdesk that can contact to investigate?  Between the cameras, devices, nest aware, One and YT.... I pay enough to Google and this is so frustrating it makes me want to ditch the lot.

Kind regards

Juni

Hi folks,

Thanks for trying that and sorry that you are still experiencing it. You can try the factory reset; this erases all your personalized settings and restores the factory default settings. It won’t automatically reconnect to WI-Fi, and you’ll need to set it up again. Check out the article below to know more about it.

Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

Hi Juni,

This doesn't make sense to me.  The issue is happening on all 5 devices and it all started at the same time.  Why would a factory reset work?  This just seems like a waste of a lot of effort.

Hey Briankee,

You can do it on one of your Google Nest speakers and observe if it makes a difference. We totally understand that troubleshooting can be frustrating, but these are the most helpful steps to figure out what's going on with your device. Let's give it a try!

Exactly the same and it's happening to me since more then two weeks. Previously it played some nice songs but now it responds "Sure, check out this music station on YouTube Music" and playing terrible music which I don't like at all.

Any update on this? The same thing is happening for me.

Hi All,

I managed to figure out that the issue is for me, at least in part, relates to the upcoming EU Digital Market Act changes.  https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/14202510?hl=en

It seems that when presented with the option,  I initially didn't allow Google to link my services.

When I linked them, it appeared to go back to normal.  They only thing it still fails on is playing my YTM playlists.  Otherwise, when I just ask it to play music it once again plays something from my likes

Hey folks,

Briankee, thanks for the details you’ve shared. That seems to be the case. For your YouTube music playlist concern, what command are you using to play your playlist? What is the name of your playlist? Could you check if restricted mode settings are enabled by following the steps below?

To turn it off:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device tileand thentap Settings Settings.
  4. Tap Notifications & digital wellbeingand thenYouTube settings.
  5. Under "Use Restricted Mode," turn off Restrict for me and Restrict when someone isn't recognized. Under "Filter content for YouTube TV," turn off Filter for me.

You can also check out the helpful link below for more information and instructions.

Plays incorrect song, playlist, artist or album

David12345, thanks for posting. Have you tried the steps provided in this thread? What Google Nest speaker do you own?

Cheers,

Juni

No, it's not working and still playing some poor music stations. So you changed something at your side for 100% and it's not on users side. No diference if device recognize my voice or even face (Hub Max) it's still playing some nonsense music stations. Only what is working is instead of command "Hey google, play some music" which I've been using for many years is now "Hey google, play my favorite music" but still it's not like before when it was playing music based on users preferences....

Hi @Iczeman@Juni@Princesss : I have the exact same issue on my side and I tried all the step above, nothing worked, still have the same issue as @Iczeman so I think there is something on your side indeed 😉

Hello Juni,

Will there be any further updates posted here about the issue or do we all have to fill out a form to know what's happening?

Targezed

Hi @Juni,
The issue seems to be fixed for me. I'm not sure if something I tried fixed the issue but it's possible.
I think this issue is related to the new DMA EU regulation implemented by Google: I had to manually authorize the associated services to share data as explained in this post
https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/14202892?sjid=17053914479960679493-EU (probably in French sorry, don't know how to get the English one)

I don't know why but I never had any notification or stuff like that that asked me to check these settings but my mother phone got one and that's how I linked the issue to this...

Hope it can help you @Iczeman 😉

Still not working, Play some music even if HUB MAX recognize my face it plays some music station on youtube music and Playlist is still the same which is crazy. Personalized results enabled everywhere as on Google account same as on HUB MAX. Tried again to enable voice match, face match and still is playing same music station...so annoying...

The solution from Targezed above worked for me. I actually tried this a week or two ago but the option to Manage my Linked Services was not available in my Google account settings. Now that this option has been enabled in my settings, I've been able to link my services and the songs played are back to normal when I ask Google to play some music.

Hey Google, play some music is finally working in my case as had to follow instructions above via PC which probably solved the issue. Another EU complication how to make people angry, noted!

Thnx for your support as discussed this topic via email as well with Google's support.
