how do I remove a disconnected device in Google Home? I see this question asked a lot, and nobody has given an answer. when I go to remove it, it just says can’t connect, which is true the device is gone. i refuse to make another home, move the device, and delete the new home or migrate all my stuff between homes.

Hey folks,

We appreciate all your patience. No new updates for now but rest assured that our team is looking into this issue. For those users who haven't sent a feedback yet, please do so by following the steps on this guide: Share a home and devices in the Google Home app

For the meantime, please create a new home structure then move all your devices (except the one the you can't delete). Once done, delete the old home structure then check if you still have the same issue. Also, check if you can delete it from the Assistant settings on the Google Home app. Follow the steps below to know how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the account icon on the upper right corner. Make sure you are log in on your account linked on the Google Home/Nest device. If not switch account by tapping the drop down arrow beside your account information.
  3. Tap "Assistant Settings."
  4. Tap "Devices" then check if you will see an option to remove unused devices.

If those troubleshooting steps don't work. Please make sure to send feedback on your Google Home app.

Cheers,

Muddi

Has no one found a solution the this yet. When I delete the room the devices get moved into unassigned and I've still got one under another heading "linked to you" and I've rest this device so what can I do with it???

I found this article while, like so many others, desperately looking for an answer. Then I hopelessly poked around a bit more on my phone and stumbled on a *non-workaround* solution! Hopefully it's universal and not some random quirk associated with my setup.

  1. In the Google Home app, select Settings.
  2. Select Rooms and groups.
  3. Select the room that the offline device is associated with.
  4. Under Device Settings, select the offline device.
  5. You should see a Remove Device option. So... select that. Voila! The phantom device is gone!
  6. Profit.

I have a work around that's SLIGHTLY BETTER than creating a new home and moving 100 devices! It's still a bandaid, but if you go and delete just the Room where the disconnected device is, then all of those devices will remain in your home but unassigned. You can now add those devices back to the Room one by one and the devices devices will remain in your home but unassigned.

For the record, this is the biggest technical design fail I've seen in a long time. Ridiculous Google hasn't fixed this or didn't consider that people would want to remove devices. They even have an option to Add devices to an existing Room where you can select the devices, but you can't simply deselect one because Save is disabled. Get with it Google - this isn't hard to fix!
