APPs on Google Chromecast

Hi all, because of our limited download on 4G (300 GB/month) I always close one TV APP on Google Chromecast before opening another TV APP, but is this necessary? If I open a different APP without closing the first, does the first one still continue to download stuff? Obviously I cannot watch 2 TV programs at once. If they both continue downloading, f.i. TV Vlaanderen downloads 1 and a half Gigabyte an hour (this cannot be changed, except on my cellphone but not for my TV) and Netflix (I set that to 450 Mbps), the download is 2GB an hour which limits my TV watching to 150 hours more or less. Just using Netflix this would give me 600 hours. Theoretically.

So, do I need to close an APP for it not to continue downloading or does starting a second TV APP stop the first one?

Thank in advance!

Hi Virannha,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Multitasking and running apps from the background apply depending on the device, which are mostly smartphones and computers. That doesn’t apply to Chromecast devices. Yes, there may be running applications in the background, but those are utility and system applications. If you think playing the Netflix app then pressing the home button to go back and choosing another app to play like YouTube would make two apps consume data at the same time, then don’t worry because it won’t. But if you’re hesitant, it won’t hurt to close one app before opening another. Whichever works for you, there’s nothing to worry about.
