I am having the same issue.  It seems that lots of people have wifi connection issues.  Google is no help in fixing their issue.

Hi there,

Please follow the Chromecast help center link below for instructions on factory resetting your device and then you can set the device up with your new WiFi network information.

Hello.  Thanks for the info.  I have done a factory reset more than once and have gone through the setup again.  This problem still remains.  This chromecast worked fine, until the last update.  Since then it will connect to my network for a few seconds and then disconnect.  I have a firestick on the same tv and it connects to the same wifi without issues.

Having the same issue - formerly functioning Chromecast kept crashing midstream, so I tried all the suggested fixes, including a factory reset.

Since the reset, I've been unable to connect the Chromecast to my Wifi - I go through all the setup stages until it gets to "Use saved password?"; after clicking through this, I'm told "Could not communicate with your Chromecast" (n.b. I've tried manually inputting the password, too - I've also reset my phone, router, Google Home etc.).

Very annoyed, now.

I've been stuck with the exact same issue for a week now.

Hi folks

Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your device. Could you please ry to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID? Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

Thanks for the help here, Cathal_S and robus_pl.

Regards,

Jennifer

I've tried that multiple times, tried switching router bands, everything recommended in thie thread and others with no luck

Hi Bluejello,

Thanks for trying the suggested step. Could you also try to reboot your Wi-Fi router and Chromecast? Using a different mobile phone to set up your Chromecast and plugging it into a different HDMI port of your TV might also help. If the issue persists, please try to do another factory reset on your Chromecast and let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I've tried all of the above with no sucess. Even rebooted both router and Chromecast at the same time, the tried again.

I always get to the step to connect to wifi, and the "could not communicate with your Chromecast" message.

Did you try to "forget" last connection and set up a new one?

Yes, I did forget the connection and reconfigured it.  The same results.  It will connect for a few seconds and then disconnect.  When I select the wifi network in the settings, it take a long time to connect and then will disconnect in about 10 seconds.  I have setup a guest network on my Google Mesh.  It will connect to that and also disconnect, althouh it seems like it stays connected longer.  I have a firestick plugged in, right next to the chromecast.  It connects to the wifi without issues.  The mesh puck is about 5 feet from the chromecast.

One person discovered that the orientation and the distance play the role. If you have any possibility to change these and test, then you can check. Sounds strange, but it was reported, that sometimes too close means no connectivity.

Anyway it looks like ccwgtv suffers some issues in case of connectivity. The same possibly refers to previous versions.

Have you try 2,4G or 5G connectivity?

Thanks for  your input.  I will try to move the mesh puck to a different location and see if that helps.  I think it is connecting through 5G.  I could not find a way to specify which bandwidth it uses.  Do you know if this can be set on the Chromecast device or on the google mesh puck?

Just name your network as it is in the mesh router. Then you will know which network are you connecting to.

Thanks for that.  It appears Google mesh does not allow naming of the different bands, see below.  Good idea though.

Your Google Wifi or Nest Wifi network uses the same name for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Both radio bands are active simultaneously. Keep in mind that your personal devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) will connect to only one radio band at any given time. Based on the device capabilities, Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi attempt to select the band that will deliver the best performance for your device.

This method is different from many routers. Some other routers have two separate Wi-Fi networks (one for the 2.4 GHz band and another for the 5 GHz band), which require you to manually connect to the band you want.

Yes, that is why I recommend to name owned Wi-Fi networks in the way, that you know if it is 2,4G or 5G. Them you can select manumally the right one.
