I am casting my chrome tab from my computer and at random times (usually between 5-20min) the Chromecast will stop displaying my computer, says it lost connectivity, and then restarts itself (black screen with the multi colored Google "G").
I have factory reset the Chromecast twice with no luck. I am powering my Chromecast with the 5V 1A USB port on the TV. I have another TV next to it that is streaming Hulu which never looses connection as well as the video on the laptop I'm streaming from never stops. My wifi is Google mesh network and I have 1 gig internet.
I can't think of any other reason as to why it is randomly restarting and it is getting annoying that I can't use my Chromecast or have to reconnect every 10min while watching a 3 hr baseball game.

Hi there, I have the exact problem.
My mother wants to buy this Google Chrome cast tomorrow, only because I've said how good it is but now unless I find out why this is happening, I won't be encouraging her to buy one.

Hi Walter753159,
Please try using the Google supplied power adapter that the Chromecast was packaged with. Most TV USB ports are designed for adding media via USB sticks and not for powering devices.

Why would the TV USB port not work when the 5V 1A provided by the port meet the power requirements listed for the Chromecast.
Also, I have always used the USB port on the TV without issue. Worked flawlessly with this TV and it's USB port for 2 years and just now started to have issues

It also says it loses connectivity before it restarts. Id believe it was a power issue if it randomly restarted (lost power and then quickly regained) but that's not what is happening. The fact it loses connectivity before restarts tells me it is malfunctioning internally and then trying to fix it my rebooting itself.

Hi again,
Is it possible for you to try using the Google power adapter and testing to see if this helps?
This forum does see quite a lot of users with the same issue due to the Chromecast being underpowered and obviously Google recommends using the supplied adapter.

Also screen casting/mirroring uses more power than normal casting because you are transmitting what is being displayed on your computer or mobile device screen in real time whereas casting is just sending the information about what you want to veiw to the Chromecast and then the device streams directly from the service.

I tried it with a wall power adapter and still have the same issue.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the help, Cathal_S.
Walter753159 and Ardent2022, what's the LED light status in your Chromecast when it reboots automatically? Have you tried to use a different device such as a mobile phone and another computer and check if the same issue persists? Please try to plug the Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV. Plugging it on a different TV screen if possible might also help.
Keep me posted.
Thanks,
Jennifer
