Chromecast remote won't enter pairing mode

Hello, I unpaired my remote and can't re-pair. New batteries, remote interacts with tv (power/volume functions) but not with Google TV, and light blinks when batteries are inserted. doesnt seem like i can factory reset either. Both the pairing mode and factory reset depend on home button so could that have suddenly broken? Thanks
