Hey,
As of today my Chromecast turns black after the initial boot-up animation (4 dots turning into the G). I can seemingly cast and playing does provide sound, but no video is shown whatsoever. Idle mode (clock + background image) also contains a black screen, no matter what I do.
I tried restarting (powerless > 2 minutes), unplugging power, a different power outlet, a different hdmi plug, but nothing seems to work.
As the boot-up animation does play, the problem seemingly lies in the device itself which is running on version 1.56.291998.
Is there anyway to fix the issue?

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. Based on the firmware version that you shared, it seems that what you have is a Chromecast 3rd Gen, since 1.56.291998 is its current firmware version. This no-video when casting issue is broad, so we need to gather more information from you. Is this happening when casting from cast-enabled apps on smartphones and/or tablets? Or is this happening when casting from the Chrome browser on computers? If it’s from cast-enabled apps, is this isolated to one or two apps? Or is it happening on all apps? Is your Chromecast device getting power directly from the TV’s USB port, or is it plugged in directly to an electrical source? Kindly help us with more details. We look forward to your response.

It is happening without casting anything (so when images and the clock should be displayed). It also happens when casting from any app (tested on Youtube, Nebula and NPO-start). Casting is availlable in the mobile phone app, but the screen that the Chromecast displays remains black (though sound is heard). The Chromecast has been plugged in on the TV's USB port, though when the error occurred I also tried it with connecting it to the grid directly, though it didn't fix the issue.

Thanks for the reply. So it seems that the TV screen will show the Chromecast 3rd Gen trying to boot up and eventually end there with a black screen, but the Chromecast somehow finishes its boot up and is ready to accept cast commands from your devices. It does cast, and the sound is there, but the TV stays on a black screen despite showing the initial boot-up screen earlier. There seems to be an HDMI communication failure. Try to isolate it by moving the Chromecast device to another TV inside the house (same Wi-Fi). Let us know how it goes.
