Chromecast v3 was successfully configured but then...

..I saw a message on Google Play that Home App is not supported on my potato Galaxy Note 5 with Android 7. 🙄 How was it able to configure it in the first place then? My Chromecast did work fine, but I took it out this morning, cuz I was like, if it's not supported I rather just stick to my Apple TV then.

Is there any security concern if I use it with the app supported on my phone? Was anybody else able to configure it via an older Home app?

Let me know, please.

Cheers!

Hey there asifakberali,

Welcome to the Chromecast Community Forum! If you check out this article on the requirements for Google Nest and Chromecast, here are the requirements for the Google Home app:

Home app requirements

  • A Google Account
  • A home Wi-Fi network
  • One of the following mobile devices:
    • An Android phone running Android 8.0 or later
    • An Android tablet running Android 8.0 or later
    • An iPhone or iPad with iOS 14.0 or later

If you are able to get it to work, great! Just know that per the requirements, Android 8.0 or later is the only officially supported versions if you run into issues.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
