Chromecast w GTV is sending unwanted HDMI CEC signal

Hi

My Chromecast with Google TV is sending unwanted HDMI activation signals.

If I have plugged it in my Samsung TV, after turning TV on (it is set to open Tizrn OS Home upon start) after like 10 seconds Input will automatically change to Chromecast. Sometimes it will even randomly switch to chromecast when I am on another HDMI input.

Same thing if I plug it into my Denon AVR, it will switch input without any user interaction. Also, when being on another input than Chromecast, turning the system off, chromecast will then turn on the whole system again.

I tried removing the batteries from the chromecast remote but nothing changed. It is definitely an issue of the chromecast dongle itself, soft or hardware.

As much as I love Google TV, this behaviour is unacceptable.

And no, I do not want to turn off CEC as I want to be able to control everything my my TV remote.

Thanks for any help

Hey there pmcl77,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is acting up. I can imagine this issue is pretty frustrating, so I'd be happy to help out. The first thing to check is for any updates to the Chromecast's firmware, as there was a recent bug-fix update. Then, I would change the HDMI port that the Chromecast is plugged into, to see if the problem persists. Finally, as I've seen this before, make sure your Chromecast is on its Home Screen before you turn off the TV or change the input, as sometimes apps can trigger the HDMI-CEC.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hey Jeran,

I haven't had time to test it out, will do so in the weekend, is that ok?

Just wanted to add, that I experienced the same, but after updating both the Chromecast with Google TV and the remote firmware (I did not know it existed), the problem seem to have stopped. And I don't have to return the device to the home screen before turning off (that would also be a deal breaker to me)
