On my smart TV I can watch streaming programs in two modes: first, through the built-in application, say, Prime-TV or Netflix; second, through the Prime-TV and Chromecast apps on my smartphone.
The thing is that in all programs the picture on the screen is much better through the smartphone (but controlling the screen through the phone, more difficult). Is that common, and, anyway, what could be the explanation for that?

That's possible. Chromecast devices work hard to give you the best picture possible and Google is constantly updating the software in the device.
It may be that the versions of the apps in your TV don't work as hard or haven't been updated recently.
Check with your TV manufacturer. Make sure your apps are updated and see if they have any setting suggestions.
