Chromecast

I got new Wifi. I had to reset my chromecast to this new wifi and since then the device will not show on the list of devices when I click the casting Icon. The chromecast shows that it is connected in the google home app. It’s connected to wifi and will cast the background screensavers on my TV as if it is connected to the internet. However, I cannot cast anything from any device or app. I tried factory reset and unplugging it multiple times with no luck. Help?

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Chromecast device. Let's sort this out.

 

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? What is the make and model of the device you used to cast? Do you have a dual-band router?

 

Give these steps a try:

 

  1. Ensure the apps you're using are updated.
  2. Make sure the Chromecast device is set up correctly.
  3. Check if other devices can cast successfully (Example: phones, tablets, computers).
  4. If you're using a dual-band router, check the router settings below:
    a. Access Point (AP) isolation must be disabled. Other devices such as laptops or computers can use the 5 GHz band. The 5 GHz band will maximize performance when using the Cast extension to cast a tab.
    b. To reduce network congestion for both networks, connect the other devices unrelated to Chromecast, such as laptops, to the 5 GHz network and leave the Chromecast connected to the 2.4 GHz network.
  5. Reboot your Chromecast again.
  6. Reboot your Wi-Fi router and mobile device.
  7. Try to plug in the Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV.
  8. Do another factory reset.
