I have a Google tv connected to my home theatre and the Google tv is separately powered on always and when I listen to music through the home theatre I don't want to have the tv that is connected to the home theatre turned on.
Example, turn on home theatre and tv (Google tv is always on) and use the Google tv app to select a music source, select playlist and play music. At this point I want to turn off the tv display, but if I do the audio stream stops. Why? How do I restart the audio only? The tv device is set to cec. This used to work and now it doesn't.
Thanks.

To add to the problem, I can pair Bluetooth headphones and it looked like it worked. Well kind of, because it's outsmarting me by casting to my phone instead. I thought to add the Bluetooth of the home theatre to the paired devices. Once paired, other than poor audio quality, the audio still turns off if the tv is turned off.

I can cast from my phone, but I have to select cast and not Spotify connect or other 3rd party connect (like Amazon music as well) in the cast/share button and there is no display, and still playing through the home theatre where the Google tv is connected. So why can't you start the app and then turn off the display?

Hi mtbcliff,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. I haven’t read any posts that prove this is possible. It most likely has something to do with the CEC communication via HDMI. Once the TV has been powered off, it wouldn’t have a chance to send its feed back to the Chromecast device, which triggers the activity to stop. Either you cast or include an AV receiver as the main input control. That way, even if the video output is not active, the AV receiver is still active and in control. Another theory is that it depends on the TV, but of course we won’t replace our own TV just for this reason.
I hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if you have other concerns with your Chromecast device.
Thanks,
Kimy

Thanks for responding Kimy.
I could understand if the Chromecast was an input on the TV, but it is an input to the receiver. The receiver and the Chromecast are both powered regardless of the tv on the receivers output. Previously it was possible to turn off the tv and ask a Google nest device to resume playing on the Google tv.

Hello mtbcliff,
Thanks for the reply. So your setup includes a receiver, and the audio output goes to the home theater setup while the video output goes to the TV. This is odd, but it still means that the Chromecast device is getting an HDMI feed of a missing output destination. Check the settings of the receiver and/or the TV; it may be related to CEC. Let us know how it goes.
