Unable to Add Supervised Account to Chromecast

Hey,

Like a number of ppl have mentioned, I too am unable to add my two kids to my Chromecast. They were on it, but one got signed out, I tried to sign him back in, but got stuck in a blank screen, so did a factory reset.

Adding a Kids account gets stuck on FINISHING, ACCOUNT ACTION REQUIRED...

Adding a normal account says CAN'T SIGN IN ON THIS DEVICE, INCOMPATIBLE.

How on earth can a Google account be incompatible with a current Google device.

Does anyone have any constructive advice?

Same issue here, both on a chromecast and on a Sony TV with the Google tv operating system. I get to the end of the process for setting up a child profile and the system hangs on the "finishing" screen.

Hi folks,

I understand your frustration. It's definitely strange that a Google account is showing as incompatible with a Chromecast with Google TV. Here are some additional things you can try to fix the issue and get your kids' accounts working again:

1. Check Family Link Settings:

  • Make sure your child accounts are set up correctly in Google Family Link. Verify they have access to Chromecast devices and the apps you want them to use. You can find these settings within the Family Link app on your phone.

2. Try Web Sign-In:

  • Instead of adding the account directly on the Chromecast, try signing them in through a web browser. Visit https://www.google.com/account/about/ on a computer and log in with your child's account. Then, check if the account can be linked to the Chromecast from the web interface.

3. Update Family Link App:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the Google Family Link app installed on your phone. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

4. Check Chromecast User:

  • It's a long shot, but try switching the primary user on the Chromecast to a different adult account and then try adding the child accounts again. This can help identify if the issue is specific to your main profile.

5. Advanced Troubleshooting (Proceed with Caution):

  • These steps involve some technical knowledge:
    • Remove Device from Google Account: Temporarily remove the Chromecast from your Google account using the Google Home app. Then, try re-adding it and see if the child accounts can be added during the setup process.
    • Check for Beta Firmware: In rare cases, beta firmware versions might have bugs. If you're enrolled in the Chromecast beta program, consider opting out and see if the issue persists with the stable firmware.

6. Report the Issue:

  • If none of these solutions work, it's important to report the issue to Google. They might be able to investigate further and provide more specific solutions. You can report the issue through the Google Home app or by contacting Google Support directly.

Here are some additional resources that might be helpful:

Remember, these are advanced troubleshooting steps, so proceed with caution and make sure you understand the process before making any changes. If you're not comfortable with these steps, contacting Google Support is the best course of action.

Hopefully, by trying a combination of these solutions, you'll be able to get your kids' accounts working on your Chromecast again.

Best,

Brandon.
