Some household automations don't work for family members

I've got an EKyro garage door opener set up with 2 scenes in the Smart Life app.  Right now the scenes only use the opener.  One scene opens the garage door and the 2nd scene closes the door.

I then created 2 household automations that activate the scenes and they worked great.  I have the home shared with my wife and the garage door opener works for her too but the automations do not.  I can't even put them on the favorites screen.  I can see them but they do nothing.  No errors are generated.

To be clear, both of us can use Google Home to control the door directly.  She just can't use the automations.

Workaround:

  1. Create duplicate scenes in smart life one for each user.  In my case I have four scenes in the smart life app.
    1. Open garage door
    2. Open stupid
    3. Close garage door
    4. Open stupid
  2. For each user, create a household automation (personal automations can't be added as a favorite) and each automation has to have a unique activation phrase.  In my case I have four household routines with the following activation phrases
    1. Open stupid
    2. Open the garage door
    3. Close stupid
    4. Close the garage door
  3. Edit the favorites to put the desired automation.
