Nest Doorbell (battery) won't chime or announce on google nest/google home speakers

My Nest doorbell (battery) will not announce visitors or chime on any of my Google Home/nest speakers in the house when the button is pressed.

I have followed every troubleshooting guide on the website.

I have searched the forums; others have had the same issue but never seem to get a resolution.

I spent an entire afternoon on live chat with a Google help agent, who ran me through all the same troubleshooting I already had been through to no avail.

They insisted on replacing my unit with a new one (despite my insistence that the hardware was not the issue).

I have now set up the replacement doorbell, and lo and behold, it still will not chime inside. Only a notification on my phone - WHICH I DON'T HAVE ON ME ALL THE TIME!!

Currently, I'm pulling my hair out, as I have a doorbell that doesn't ring...

If anyone has any ideas or has got theirs working after experiencing this, I would greatly appreciate your guidance!

@davetreadwell

You have most likely checked these suggestions.  It does seem that there are more anomalies reported with the battery doorbell than other Google Nest doorbells.

Is your battery doorbell wired to your indoor doorbell chime, and is the "Indoor chime" option enabled in the Google Home app for your doorbell? Have you checked your doorbell transformer (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/12153643)? Many of us have upgraded to a 16V 30VA transformer to get both 1st and 2nd gen Google Nest doorbells to function.

Is the "Visitor announcements" option enabled for your doorbell in the Google Home app? Is "Do not disturb" turned off on your Nest speakers and are they on the same Wi-Fi network and in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your doorbell?

No indoor chime - and no plan to install one!
(All of the literature stresses that you MUST have a Google speaker if you want to hear the doorbell and don't have a chime, so we thought we'd be fine!)

Visitor announcements are switched on, do not disturb turned off on all seven speakers, all sharing the same 2.4ghz network, and all in the same home on the google home app.

@davetreadwell

That is odd. Have you tried rebooting any of your speakers, either by unplugging them for a minute or by rebooting them from within the Google Home app (Settings | More | Reboot)?

When you're testing this, note that because Google Nest's cameras and doorbells have some kind of recovery or cooldown period (5 or 10 minutes?), you won't get second or subsequent notices if you press the doorbell button several times, even if things are working fine.

Hello folks,

@davetreadwell, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with visitor announcements. I wanted to check in and see if you still needed any help. Have you already rebooted your speakers, as suggested by MplsCustomer above? If yes, how was it?

Keep me posted.

Best,

Lance

Rebooted all speakers and still no notifications when the bell is pressed.

Rebooted them all and no luck sadly when the doorbell is pressed, no notifications on the speakers
