Setup Nest Outdoor Camera

AndrewK93
Community Member

Recently moved into a property where two Nest Outdoor cameras have been installed by previous occupant.

The cameras are too high for a standard ladder or long reach ladder to access.

Without the QR CODE, how can I set these cameras up? Is there something which can scan for the cameras and find out the Code to set them up?

Hi, I'm and end user like you and have been using these cameras for many years.  I'm pretty sure you will have to go up the ladder to get them and the power supplies.  And I strongly suggest you take them down and bring them into your house to get them up and running before going back up the ladder.

This link might help you as well.  Here are the instructions for doing a full factory reset and adding the cameras to your own router.

The previous owner also has to remove the cameras from their account or you can get this error:

Just to note. The cameras are 2.5 stories up from the bottom.

we have asked the neighbours on how these have been installed and we have been advised that they were installed whilst scaffolding was up to resolve a issue with the roof.

is there no app or something alike that is able to scan for the cameras

i can reach the internal power supply and have performed power cycles to see if that they pick up but nothing.

How can I remove the cameras if the wire had been fed though the mortur within thr bricks

Ouch!!

Having to use either the QR code or the 6-character alphanumeric setup code to set up Google Nest cameras and doorbells has been a perennial challenge. I've written down the setup codes and serial numbers for all of our devices when setting them up, to avoid having to remove the camera or doorbell if a re-install is needed, but not everyone does that. You could try checking with the previous owner to see if they wrote down the setup codes or serial numbers; you need to check with them anyhow to make sure they removed the cameras from their account.

Google Nest says you can't re-install without the previous owner removing the camera from their account: "If you bought this camera new or can’t get the previous owner to remove the camera from their account, return it to the seller for a refund or exchange it for another. Let the seller know that your product is already connected to someone else’s account and it can’t be set up." (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9249728?hl=en)

Google Nest does have this page, which says that if you don't have the QR code, you can select "Continue without scanning" and type in your product's serial number but I don't know if that works for cameras, and in any case you'd need to get the serial number off of the camera or from the previous owner:
