Chromecast with Google TV 4K and BBC iPlayer

I have just purchased a Chromecast with Google TV 4K. My Internet source is via a full fibre connection and the WiFi signal at the position where the stick is located is over 100Mbps. My configuration works correctly for other streaming sources such as Netflix, for both UHD and HD content.

Using the iPlayer the video and audio blank (Black screen, no audio) for 1 to 2 second every few minutes. Sometimes this blanking also includes a loud click from the audio. Also if I cast the iPlayer from my Android phone the picture intermittently freezes.

I have found that if the Chromecast is set to HD resolution rather than 4K the transmission is perfect.

I have cleared the app cache, unistalled and reinstalled the app and rebooted the Chromecast but the fault is still present

Is there a way to fix this?

Hi. Does the issue happen when streaming different programmes or is it just on one programme?

 

I personally don't have any issues, however I am using the iPlayer Beta, which is accessed from the the setting menu inside the iPlayer app.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I bailed out and returned the Chromecast to the supplier yesterday.

I contacted the BBC. They stated that the "with Google TV" types have not yet been certified by them. I also found that when casting from my Android phone the picture freezing occurred for all App's and not just the iplayer.

As my main App is the iPlayer, and I want to cast from my mobile, I am going to try and get hold of a version 2 or 3 Chromecast.

Google's lack of response on this issue is annoying.
