Restating Chromecast without output.

This has been a LONG running issue after updates, resets, etc.  I’m tired of the boilerplate responses.  Please fix this or AT LEAST give us a way to force a restart without climbing behind our TVs.  That’s a major hassle.  If there’s a way to do it already, please advise on how to do it.

Hi Boilerbuzz,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. What Chromecast device are you using? Have you tried rebooting both the Chromecast device and the TV? Switching to another HDMI port also helps. Kindly click this link to learn how to do the factory reset. If it persists, try to isolate it by testing it on another TV. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

This doesn’t address my issue at all.  My post is clearly labeled for Chromecast with Goggle TV, and the ISSUE is just being able to restart (sorry for the typo in the subject) the device without having to actually TOUCH the device.  Getting behind the TV where it is mounted is a MAJOR pain.  How do I restart it with the remote when we can’t see the screen?

Hello Boilerbuzz,

I understand. Unfortunately, if you can’t read or view on the screen the actions that you do on the remote, I don’t think that it would help. There’s no shortcut from the remote to do such actions.

Usually, from the home screen (when you press the home button from the remote once), the option goes to Home, and that’s where you start to navigate. This time, you can press and hold the home button on the remote for 3 seconds, and it will jump to the settings icon. Press the OK/center button, and it will open the settings menu. The settings menu shows eight (8) options:

  • Network and Internet
  • Accounts and Sign In
  • Privacy
  • Display and Sound
  • Apps
  • System
  • Remotes and Accessories
  • Help and Feedback

It always starts from the top, so you have to press the down button five (5) times to navigate System, which is the sixth (6th) option. Press the OK/center button, and it will open up ten (10) options (11 if the developer mode is on) under System, which are:

  • Accessibility
  • About
  • Date and Time
  • Language
  • Keyboard
  • Storage
  • Ambient mode
  • Energy saver
  • Developer options (only available if it’s on)
  • Cast
  • Restart

You can press and hold down (about 3 to 5 seconds) the down button to go to the bottom, which is the Restart option. Press the OK/center button, and inside, you have Restart at the top and Cancel at the bottom. By default, it chooses Cancel, so you have to press the up button once to choose Restart and press the OK/center button again to initiate the restart/reboot process.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy
