When playing ambient sounds, "Stop" or "Hey Google, Stop" do not work.

Hello everyone,

I have a Google Chromecast with Google TV.

I have configured a routine to show my calendar, the weather and to "play relaxing sounds"

When I'm ready to get to work, I press the Google Assistant button - it listens - I say "Stop" - and the ambient sounds keep playing.

I tried, "Hey Google, Stop", "Stop audio", "Stop playing on Den TV", ...

Nothing works. The ambient sounds keep playing.

Currently I go and start a YouTube video and stop it to get the Ambient sounds to stop - or turn of the TV. Not optimal!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi tyzer007,

Thanks for reaching out. To confirm, did you press and hold the Google Assistant button on the Voice Remote when saying the command? If not, could you try that and use the command "stop the music"? Also, please manually turn it off on the Google Home app. You should see in the device card that a music is playing, from there you can manually stop playing the music or sound.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Jennifer

Thanks Jennifer.

I have pressed the "Google Assistant" button. The command is displayed so I know the microphone is active and interpreting what I say correctly.

When I go to the Google Home app, I can find the Chromecast TV and stop the audio - that works.

And I have a Google Mini in the same room. When I say, "Hey Google, Stop" - nothing happens. BUT - When I say, "Hey Google, Pause" - the Google Mini hears me - and pauses the audio on the Chromecast TV.

It's like "Stop" doesn't work - but "pause" will work - but only when I ask through the Google Mini.

Very odd!

Thanks again,

Troy

Hello tyzer007,

Thanks for getting back to us with an update. Could you try to use the Google Assistant on your phone and check if the same issue will persist? Also, please include in your command the word music or sound then check if the Google Assistant will acknowledge it.

If the issue persists, please reboot your Google Home Mini, Chromecast with Google TV dongle, and Chromecast Voice Remote.

Jennifer

Hi there,

It's me again. How's it going? Did you manage to get your device working?

Thanks,

Jennifer

thanks Jennifer - I finally rebooted everything and now it seems to be working. I thought it should work... and now it does.

Thanks again,

Troy

But then this morning - again - it is not working.

I press the Google Assistant button my remote and I have tried:
Stop

Stop Music

Stop Sound

Stop Sounds

= and the "Relaxing sounds just keep playing - even if the display returns to the Home menu"

And if I say

"Pause" - then the music stops - but the Chromecast is still ready to resume at any time.

This is very strange...

And I have rebooted everything.

I cannot get the Stop command to work on the Chromecast, nor on my Google Mini, nor on the Google Home or Google Assistant app on my iPhone. I can only get the system to: Pause - but never stop - unless I start a YouTube video or play Spotify.

I can say "stop" to Spotify and it works fine. Same with YouTube.

Hey tyzer007,

Oh no! Could you please perform a factory reset on your Chromecast with Google TV, Google Mini and Google Home? Once done, try again and observe the behavior.

Thanks,

Jennifer
