help with Wiring for Google Nest Thermostat G4CVZ

JohnnyFiveAlive

Hi-

Can someone tell if me if HVAC is compatible with Google Nest Thermostat G4CVZ

Here's my old thermostat

thermostat wiring American Standard.jpg

On my old thermostat:

left side:

  • orange to y2
  • red to s1
  • white to s2

right side

  • Red to R
  • jumper wire from Rc to R
  • white to W1
  • yellow to Y
  • green to G
  • blue to B

Where do these wires attach to the Google Nest thermostat with the following 6 inputs: Y, C, W, G, R and *O/B inputs. What about the jumper on the original thermostat? There are S1 and S2 on the old thermostat but no S on the Nest.

We have a gas forced air system.

Thanks

Give this wiring a try

Orange - Y2 to */OB (set for 2nd stage cooling)

Red - S1 to tape off, not used

White - S2 to tape off, not used

Red - R to R (jumper to RC not needed)

White - W1 to W

Yellow - Y to Y

Green - G to G

Blue - B to C

@Patrick_Caezza That worked! Thank you so much.

We have a second thermostat that I just opened up and to my surprise the wiring is different. Can I ask again how I'd connect this to the Nest? We have a 'gas forced air system'

There are three wires connected and two wires not connected:

Current setup:

  • Yellow to D
  • Red to R
  • Blue to B
  • White unconnected
  • Green unconnected

Again, how to connect to our Nest Google Nest thermostat with the following 6 inputs: Y, C, W, G, R and *O/B.

I connected it in a similar pattern to our other thermostat. No error messages but the system does not respond. How risky is it to wire it wrong - can it cause any harm?

Thank again - I appreciate your time and expertise.

John

Can you post a picture of it?

It sounds like that one is not compatible

That one is not compatible as it uses a proprietary interface that isn't supported by Nest

@Patrick_Caezza, thank you for the speedy response. I appreciate it on a Sunday! By any chance do you know if any other smart thermostats might work?

None that I know of.

Try looking around the furnace/air handler and see if an adapter box converts it back to the 24Vac signals.

Do you know if you have a heat pump or a conventional HVAC?

Our inspection reports says  "gas forced air system"... so that's a heat pump right?

Hello there,

The configuration as posted by @Patrick_Caezza did work. There were no error messages but although the AC worked, the heat did not work. I'm not sure what "Try looking around the furnace/air handler and see if an adapter box converts it back to the 24Vac signals" means. I'll have to have someone help me with that.

CORRECTION, the configuration as posted by @Patrick_Caezza did NOT work.
