Unable to consistently play Radio via any service.

Radio (via SiriusXM) was working on my Google Home speaker until recently. Now, none of the radio services work consistently. After some troubleshooting today services worked for a while. Now none of the services work, including iHeartRadio, TuneIn, etc.

I’ve reset the Google speaker, unlinked and relinked SiriusXM without success.

All other features of the speakers are working.

Hi DarylH51,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? What country are you located in? Were there any recent changes made? Was it the exact command when playing radio and its response? When you did the reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.
  4. If your speaker or display doesn't play the radio station you requested, be more specific with your query, or ask for the station in a different way, using name, frequency or call sign.
  5. If the request is not properly answered, try to add "on TuneIn" or “on iHeartRadio” to the query. Example: "Play ESPN Radio on TuneIn,” or "Play ESPN Radio on iHeartRadio."
  6. If the provided station is inaccurate when asking for frequency, try to add the name of a nearby city. Example: "Play 101.9 FM LA."

Check this guide to link your radio service.

Best,

Dan

we have tried all the suggestions offered in your replies. We have a  Google home speaker system. We have it connected to our SirisXm account and have been playing  music in this manner on the Google speaker for a few years. Now, Google attempts to play SiriusXM whwn we ask. But, after acknowledging our request to play it, Google responds with “There was a   Problem with your request, please try later…” I rebooted routers, removed and re-added SiriusXM without success. All other features of the Google speakers work as expected. Do you have  any other suggestions?

Hey DarylH51,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, are you having the same issues when you use the Google Assistant app on your phone? Also, do you still have issues listening to radio from other providers like TuneIn, and iHeartRadio?

To further isolate the issue, try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home speaker).

Keep us posted.

Cheers,
Muddi

No progress in resolving the issue with SiriusXM not playing on the Google speakers.

I will retry all troubleshooting steps tomorrow, as was outlined earlier posts and reply with results.

Still no progress on playing SiriusXM on with my main Google speaker or my two google pucks. I unlinked, relinked the Google devices, switched networks without getting SiriusXM to play on Google devices. It will play on my phone and laptop without issue. Any other suggestions?

I had the same issue.  It appears SiriusXM may have changed what it uses to authenticate for streaming.  In my SiriusXM account there is a Streaming profile so to speak.  In this section you set the username and password to use for streaming, which is what Google Home needs to link with.  Once I configured this streaming profile to use the same email username as my Google Home account, and linked Google Home with this SiriusXM streaming profile username and password, SiriusXM now plays on my Nest pucks.  Nirvana!

Thanks! I followed your suggestion and  re-checked our SiriusXM username. I ensured this was set up on Goggle Home. That fixed the issue. Sirius must made some change recently that disrupted the set up we had on Goggle Home.

I am having this same issue which started the week of 2/28/2023.

Google Home Network = router on first floor, Nest puck on 2nd floor, Nest puck on 3rd floor.

Until the week of 2/28/2023 I could say "Hey Google, play SiriusXM Studio 54" and the assistant would reply "Streaming SiriusXM radio ..." and the station would play.  Now the assistant says "Streamin Studio 54 radio ... ", followed by "Sorry, something went wrong ...".

The Radio is linked correctly in Home to SiriusXM.  I am able to stream the SiriusXM app to the pucks, not able to use the Assistant to play a station from SiriusXM on the pucks.  This started the week of 2/28/2023.

This is no longer an issue.  Configured Google Home to link to my SiriusXM streaming profile settings and we're back in business.
