Google Home not recognising multi-way switches after recent update

Tahi
Community Member

Google Home version 2.56.1.11.

I have a 2 gang light switch set up in Tuya.  Up until 7 days ago both Tuya and Google Home  recognized the switches as individual devices and I had these devices associated with 2 different rooms in Google Home. However 7 days ago I had a Google Home message that said that it had removed the 2 devices.  Now Google Home only recognises the 2 gang light switch as 1 device therefore I can not control 2 different lights.

I have deleted the light switches in both Tuya and Google Home and have re-set them up. Tuya sees them as 2 separate devices however I can not get Google Home to recognise the 2 gang light switch as 2 separate devices. I have also tried setting them up in Smart Life and in Grid Connect both recognise the 2 devices but Google Home only recognises 1 device. Has anyone got any ideas where I should look or why these were removed? Thanks

Hi Princess, I've just updated to 2.59.1.9 but I'm still unable to control each light of the switch, still have only only one button on/off for all the light on the switch.

I have The same problem

Hi Princess, yes, my devices have come back. The only issue I have now is that I  cannot change the device type for some of my switches to "switch". Instead I have set them as an outlet. I am unconcerned about this as it has been an issue since installing them around 18 months ago.

Hi all,

I've been having the same issues with several 2 gang DETA switches connecting via Grid Connect. The switch alone shows up in Google Home yet the individual devices controlled by the switch have disappeared. Two weeks ago they were fine. Grid Connect shows the switches and devices present and controllable. I have reset these switches to default and reset them up again with still no joy. I have also reconnected the Grid Connect devices with Google amd the problem persists. I am up to date  with the latest versions of the Grid Connect and Google ap. The issue seems to lie with the Google. I am in Australia.

Running Google Home app on iOS or Android?

I run it on iOS

Same as me then, We appear to be waiting for Google to update the iOS version of the Home app.

There doesn't appear to be any way to find out when that might be. All we do know is that some (most?) android / google version users already have received a fix for this problem.

There hasn't been any official support on this thread for two weeks now!!!!!

I’m tempted to acquire an android device and run the updated version of Google Home to see if it can find my missing devices

I just received an answer to my review of Google Home and the incompetency persist…. Once again the usual restart the modem, reset it, update the app, send us this or that info, blah, blah, blah. There are a lot of customers having this same problem since around Nov - Dec 2022 and all you do is giving instructions to perform user level actions that we all have done many times along with providing you all kind of info to you and you never come thru with a solution that is your responsibility.  When I served in the US Army this type of conduct and neglect was labeled “dereliction of duty” and that was enough to “fire some people”…. Google your staff responsible for fixing this are making you look like “a mall cell phone repair  booth”.

Just had an update to the Google Home app on iOS, taking it to version 2..58.104.

STILL NO FIX FOR THIS ISSUE.

Can someone PLEASE tell us what is happening.

Same here, 2 gang light switch, branded Deta Grid Connect but shows as Arlec, recognised as 2 individual devices in smart life app (and Grid Connect) but only seen by Google Home app as 1 master switch (no individual control). Was showing/working correctly as 2 individual switches until a couple of weeks ago when GH history shows it removed devices. All software updated, All firmware updated, latest IOS version.

Finally!  A new version og Google Home app for iOS has just dropped onto my phone. Its version 2.59.211 and it has fixed this issue for me.
Appallingly poor communication from Google, but at least its done at last.

Hi folks,

We're sorry for the late response. As we released a new update on Home app, we are expecting that this will work for everybody. Let's wait for few more days for the update to be rolled out and let us know if anyone here still experiencing the same thing.

By the way, we appreciate you updating us @Kiwi3685. Glad to know that it worked on your end.

Best,

Princess

Also I am iOS

Hi there,

I'm still experiencing similar issues with Smart Life devices, after updating Google Home to 2.59.33.2. My ceiling fan and light device wise, i can only control the fan from the Home app. The on button is missing from the app. My device is a Pixel 5, and probably a Pixel 7 pro after this week.

However, after the update, if use the app to turn on all lights in the room, the lights that are missing controls will turn on too.

Do i need to update all Google Home and Google Nest devices in the house before i see changes too? provided that they have updates.

Ok so summary ;

I have done all of the above steps mentioned in resetting and delinking …it did not fix the issue.

My devise of operation is iOS latest version

My google home app is latest version on iOS - 2.59.211

My Switch is a DETA 2 gang switch and I have 3 in my home and all three are showing as a single point not a 2 gang switch in google home application.

The 3rd party apps I am able to use with the DETA switches are ; Grid Connect, Tuya and Smart Life. All 3 current versions downloaded and tried now and all recognise the 2 gang switches and they work on all three 3rd party applications.

When all 3 are linked to google home the 2 gang switch turns into a single switch not operating as two so both lights turn on and off through Google home. It also doesn’t bring the name of the seperate 2 Gang switches across to Google home app instead giving it a random “switch3” title

Google you can’t tell everyone all 3rd party apps are an issue when it clearly is google home app problem. Get your act together Google and fix these otherwise Alexa will overtake you for me and many others. I have also contact all 3rd party apps and given them feedback too if the poor fix and responses….again please get your act together and the appropriate engineers and fix the problem once and for all. We all didn’t spend hundreds of dollars to be on blogs complaining you need to look at your customer experience and take it seriously.

Hey it's been a couple of months any news please. I have the exact same issue that all my multi-gang tuya light switches appear as a single button in Google home on Android

Hi @ZSCH, I also have the tuya wifi 3-gang switches and have the same problem since the first time i commented in this thread.

I also having same issue with on my 4 gang+1 usb Smartlife Power Strip. It used to show 5 individual switches on Google Home but now it just show as 1 master switch.

I able to see history logs on 19 Dec 2022 8.53pm saying # remove Switch 1 to Switch 5 from my Google home.

I didn't remove them at all. Why Google helps me to remove them?

I am using Samsung Android Phone.

Google Home version: 2.62.1.9

Just an additional info for Google. I do have Alexa account which is also linking to my Smartlife. No issue for Alexa to detect 5 switches on the same Smartlife power strips.

I did try to factory reset my power strip twice. Also try unlink and relink Smartlife to my Google Home but none of them solve the issue.

I have the same problem, issue started this week. I have 2 power strips both work fine in smart life app but on google home it shows as I switch. Tried reset the power strips and even re-linking it, still the same. Please help. Defenitly a google home issue, since I noticed that Alexa still recognise them fine too

@Princesss really that Google dev can have a look on this issue.

I am not the only one facing this issue here.

I did try few hours of unlink/relink Smartlife to Google Home.

Also updated my Google home android to latest build 2.62.1.5.

None of it work. The power strip still show as 1 switch on Google Home instead of 5 individual switch.

Hi All,

I'm facing the same issue - my 2 gang switches are appearing as 1 on the google home app. the 3 gang switches appear to be working as per usual. Please help!

Same as me, detect google home suddenly remove all the 2 gang switch type only on 18 December 2022 and just detect 1 switch instead of 2.

This is a google home issue for sure. Some switches are even coming up twice the same. I have switches that dont even exist in smart life that are showing in google home. Same 2 gang switch have the same issue showing as 1 switch only both from tuya and smart life.

I've also got the same issue. I'm not sure exactly when it occurred. I have a Tuya 2 gang light switch and I can control either or both in Tuya and Alexa, but Google Home only allows switching on and off of both at once - pretty useless. It used to work like Tuya and Alexa and has only stopped working in the last month or so for Home. Definitely a Google Home issue.

I've updated all apps and reduced. I've even removed the device and reinstalled in Tuya. No change. Google Home version is 2.62.1.15 and I'm on Android using a OnePlus 6. My wife also has the same issue on her OnePlus 8T

This issue has been going on for some time. Could you please respect your customers and resolve this quickly. I'll be switching away from Google if I don't get a resolution soon.

Thanks

Hi All,

Same issue with my Esmlfe Smart Switch. Weeks ago it was working great but after update only recognize one device instead of two.

Help Google please!

I have the same issue that started last week. My Smart Life two gang switches show up correctly in the Smart Life app as individual switches, but in Google Home they were removed and when added back are only shown as one single device, forcing me to turn on all switches when i turn on via Google Home. Both Home and Smart Life and device firmware are updated to latest.

I found an alternative. Create a scene with tap to run to voice control the switch separate.

https://support.tuya.com/en/help/_detail/K9tkzp6jds4rd

I tried the tap and run but it do not show in google home

angeljgonzalezr

It will not show like a device but works with voice commands.

with `hey google` voice command?

angeljgonzalezr

Yes, Google will recognize the name of the scene. It's better than nothing.

Has there been any progress on this one. It appears that several of my multi outlet power boards are facing the same issue - fine on SmartLife (Tuya) but recently appears as a single switch on Google Home app.

The SmartLife/Tuya product details are:

CockeyedObserve_1-1672540824670.png

I have 3 of the same product.

It's unfortunate that the integration has broken recently as they were working brilliantly a few months back. Unfortunately I'm not certain when it last worked properly.

Any assistance on this matter would be much appreciated.

Another affected user here with a dual switch was working perfectly then an update killed it and have been waiting what seems like an eternity for it to be fixed.  I thought it might be because I am on iOS but now I am seeing more android users coming forward as well.  This really needs sorting quickly as for such a big fault it has been left like this for a long time

Adding another user with the same problem. Currently on Google Home version 2.62.80.2 and my notifications show that the individual switches were removed from my Google account on 12.16. Did Google fix this in a previous update and then **bleep** it up again?

Saytri

It has nothing to do with the app version you have installed, it is something they have done internally, since I have tried different versions, even very old ones on Apple and on Android devices, all have the same issue
