No idea if this is the right category!! For the last 5 and half years I have had my chromecast built-in Android TV as a fully functioning controllable device in my Home, assigned to a room, included in routines etc etc. No issues. Five and a half years.
On 2 September when I ran a routine that included turning the TV off, Assistant advised me that 'it looks like this device isn't set up yet' and refused to do anything with it!!! When I checked the Google Home app I could see that this device had been removed from my Home and put in the 'local devices' section. Obviously because it is still connected to my wifi network I can see it there but I cannot get the app to add it back to the room it was in as a device in my Home.
I've updated the software on this TV, rebooted t numerous times but it is not located as a device by the Home app when I try to set it up again. What's happened?

Hi kyliejane,
Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.
Please note that we have limited support for third-party cast enabled devices. Let’s see how we can sort it out. Do you have a home member in the Google Home app? Tap Settings > Under the home name, you will see the account icon of the home members.
If you don’t have home members; from the Google Home app, tap Devices > Scroll down to Local device > Tap your TV icon > Look for the option to “Add to a room” > Follow the instructions in adding the TV back in your room. If you have home members, let them try adding the TV back in a room.
Regards,
Alex

Hi there Alex, hey thanks for trying to help but the entire reason that I posted here is that these very basic things have not worked!!! If I could just select it and add it back to the room that it was in for 5 years, I would have done that! I am the only home member and as I said, the device no longer appears as a device for me to select and add to a room! I was hoping that someone may know of something that has changed in the google ecosystem that has caused this and therefore the setting that I need to tweak to be able to add it back.

Hi there,
Strange. Have you already tried to uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app? What’s the make and model of your Android TV? You might have tried this steps as well, but let’s see how this will go:
Warmly,
Alex

Thanks Alex, apologies for the delayed response, I've just had [right] hand surgery and typing and everything else can still be a bit of an effort! This is slightly more helpful although no, I signed out of my Android TV in My Devices, it is not able to be removed, nor removed from the Google Home app, because it is connected to my wifi network, That's why it shows as a 'local device' now, instead of the 'living room tv' device it showed as, located as one of the several devices in my 'living room' room for the last five and a half years in my Google home app. Before being randomly removed by Google a few weeks ago and placed in local devices. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app did not help. Still in local devices and unable to be moved or controlled or set up. I will try factory resetting my TV and try resetting it up from scratch..........

Hello kyliejane,
Oh! I hope your recovery is quick and easy. Let’s try that: factory reset your TV and set it up again once you can. I’ll look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Alex

Hi again Alex, just a quick update on this! I was finally able to factory reset my chromecast built in Android TV and started again.....no, unfortunately after all of that it still did not appear as a device that I could add to a room in my Home. BUT, weirdly, while still only appearing as a 'local device' in my Home [because obviously being on the same Google wifi network as my Home] it has added itself back into my routines ! Which is actually all I wanted it to do, when the routine says turn living room tv on [or off, depending on the routine] I just want it to do that, as it has for over 5 years! And weirdly it does again, despite living room tv only being a local device and not actually in my Home!!! Weird but sort of fixed I guess 🙂
