Google Workspace Accounts No Longer Working With Google Home App

Since early October, or maybe even late September, my co-workers and I can no longer sign into the Google Home app on our Android work phones that we use to manage Chromecasts in classrooms throughout our schools. We each have a Google Workspace account that had worked great with the Home app up until this point, but now we can't even get signed into the app any longer, unless we switch to using a personal Google account, which our organization wants to avoid if at all possible. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the Home app on my work phone, but that doesn't seem to make a difference either. Seemingly ever since the Home app's newer update(s) when the app icon changed (and I believe Gemini was/is being added into the app) this has become a problem, and I either get an error message saying "This account already exists on your device" when trying to sign into the Home app now with my Workspace account. Or, occassionally, I'll instead get a message saying "You do not have access to this service. Please log in to your Admin Console to enable this service." I've contacted and worked with both Google Nest support as well as Google Workspace Support (from within the Admin Console) about this issue the last few days, with neither team being able to provide a resolution at this time, and recommending we use personal Google accounts instead for the time being / until further notice. Does anyone know definitively if Google is nuking support for Workspace accounts within the Home app? Also, for any other Google Workspace customers, have you also been running into this problem with your Workspace accounts in the Home app? If anyone has any insight into a potential fix, I'd greatly appreciate any/all feedback. Otherwise, it seems we're stuck using personal Google accounts in the Home app until further notice, for managing our school Chromecasts, which is NOT ideal for our organization. Anyways, I haven't seen much for reports of this issue yet on the web, so figured I'd post this here, and see if others are experiencing the same thing, and if anyone from Google Support maybe has a solution, or at least an ETA for when this might be fixed, assuming Workspace accounts won't be permanently unsupported within the Home app moving forward, which would be disappointing. Thanks in advance to anyone who shares their recent experience and/or any helpful troubleshooting tips / tricks. Much appreciated.

Hello bSmallPSSD,

Thank you for posting your question to the Google Nest Community Forum. I understand that Google Workspace accounts no longer work with the Google Home app. I'm happy to provide more information on this topic.

Regarding your concern, please note that Google Workspace email addresses can be linked to the Google Home app, but it won’t have full functionality. Features might not work as intended. I recommend you use a Gmail account that will allow you to use all of the features available on your Google Home.

Regards,

Daniel

Hello,

We are an international school in Paris and we have exactly the same issue - issue can be evidenced when trying to access the home.google.com page, which says "forbidden access - unauthorized service"

Like  bSmallPSSD, we need to be sure this issue cannot be fixed, before migrating all our Chromecasts to a personal gmail account.

Also, could you specify which features would be anavailable when using an educational account ?

Thanks,

Christophe

We have activated all services for testing, devlared user is over 18, without result

Hi Chris-ML,

Thanks for posting in this forum. The information I can share with you is that Google Workspace email addresses can be linked to the Google Home app, but the connection has limited functionality. Certain features may not work correctly or be available when using a Workspace account, such as:

  • Calendar events
  • Calls to Google contacts
  • Personal music with a premium music service subscription
  • Invites for additional home members

Regards,

Daniel
