Google home removed grouped speakers, won’t allow me to create new group

Discovered google home app removed my speaker group. Only 2 google home speakers were connected in said group. 
When I go to create speaker group, select the speakers, and hit next, cycle the processing “creating group” cycle, the app circles back to the Home Screen with the prompt “group was created, but something went wrong”

Created group does not show.

not sure what to do now…

We're sorry for the inconvenience — let's see what's going on.

Was it working before? Make sure your devices are connected to the same network and within 15-20 feet of your router. Try clearing the cache and data of your Google Home app then, reinstall it. Rebooting your speakers and router might help too.
