Home app can't see working chromecast Audio.

I have a chromecast Audio I've had for years, it continues to work, I can cast from apps on my phone or with Google assistant. The Google Home app cannot see it. It just says it's offline. I'm currently casting to it, it's not offline. More garbage software, shocker

Hello @Nmr916,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are having a situation where your Chromecast Audio is working perfectly; you can cast to it from apps and use Google Assistant, but the Google Home app incorrectly reports that the device is offline and cannot see it. Let's work together to fix this.

This issue, where the device status is wrong in the app but functional in reality, is almost always a temporary network communication error between the Google Home app on your phone and the Google Cast services on your network.

We need to clear the cached network data on your phone and your router to force the Google Home app to reread the true status of the Chromecast Audio.

Step 1: Perform the Triple Reboot Sequence (Crucial)

This is the most effective way to clear temporary network conflicts.

  • Reboot your Wi-Fi router/modem: Unplug the power cord, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Reboot your Chromecast Audio: Unplug the power cable from the Chromecast Audio device, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Reboot your Phone: Fully power down and restart the mobile device running the Google Home app.

Step 2: Clear Google Home App Cache

Clearing the app's cache ensures you aren't viewing old, cached data that incorrectly shows the device as offline.

  • Go to your phone's Settings.
  • Navigate to Apps (or Applications)—See all apps.
  • Find and select the Google Home app.
  • Select Storage & Cache.
  • Tap Clear cache. (Do not clear storage/data, as that would force you to re-add your entire home structure).
  • Reopen the Google Home app and check the status of the Chromecast Audio.

Step 3: Temporarily Disable VPN (If Used)

If you use a VPN on your phone, even when connected to your home Wi-Fi, it can sometimes block the local network traffic necessary for the Google Home app to communicate directly with the Chromecast Audio.

  • If you have a VPN, temporarily disable it and check the Google Home app again.

Please try the full Triple Reboot Sequence (Step 1) first, as this often forces the network discovery service to refresh the correct status.

Let me know if the Chromecast Audio correctly appears as online after performing these steps.

Regards,

Kevin

I have done all of these in the past and it does nothing or works for a day or so. I'm not rebooting all of this every few days and doing cache clears. Also I would like to reiterate that a message should not tell me to make sure they're on the same wifi when a device is wired.
