Wifi router 2.4 and 5ghz Frequencies

This applies to both HOME and NEST apps.

We changed broadband providers yesterday to fiber and got a new router. I reset all of my devices but I'm wondering if this might cause me issues.

The first two Google mini speakers set up without any problems on the 5ghz frequency. These are furthest away from the router.

The larger Google Home speaker couldn't see the 5ghz wifi and I had to set it up on the 2.4ghz

Finally my wired doorbell kept sticking at "looking for your camera" so last night I gave up and went to bed. This morning I took the doorbell off, brought it inside and plugged it into a power supply. Again it stuck at "Looking for your camera"

After a google search I found an answer on Reddit.

I switched my phone from 5ghz to 2.4ghz and hey presto, the doorbell wanted to connect to 2.ghz.

The only problem I have to solve is that the speakers do not announce when someone is it the front door like before.

Can anyone tell me if my devices being on the different frequencies will cause any problems and should they be on the same frequency as our phones?

@Griffin

If you have the same network name (SSID) for both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, I don't think you should have any problems. We have the same network name (SSID) for both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, we have Google Nest determine which frequency to use, and we have no issues.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, MplsCustomer.

Griffin, thanks for reaching out and for the details you’ve shared. If you are not getting Nest doorbell notifications on your Google Nest Mini that are setup on 5Ghz try to use 2.4Ghz. Also make sure that do not disturb is disabled.

Check out this link for more information about Nest doorbells visitor announcement.

@Juni thanks for the reply. Because I deleted the camera from the app, when I added it back again it used the default settings which means announcements were turned off. It took me a while to find the right setting, but they are working now.
