smart life lighting no longer working with google home

I have recently upgraded my internet router and going through the painful process of signing everything in again with the new wifi password.

I have 3# smart life plugs into which i have lighting plugged in. Worked fine on the google app and asking google turn off/on lights until the router changed. Now, each of the lights are showing as offline. They work fine on the smart life app.

I have unlinked and relinked the smart life app, I've uninstalled smart life and reinstalled, I've reinstalled google home app, I have restarted phone,  and each time it recognises there are lights, asks which room to assign them to, all fine until they are assigned to the rooms and try to connect - and still showing as offline. I have also removed smart life app and service from my google account on chrome browser but still same issue.

As above, they worked just fine 24hrs ago (before router was changed) and they work just fine in the smart life app (some of the suggestions when I've googled have been infuriating, such as check they are plugged in!)- can anyone offer another suggestion different to what i have already tried above?

Hi stevewright,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with the connection of your Smart Lights and the Google Home app. I understand that this happened after upgrading the internet router. Don't worry; help is here. I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  • What are the lights that you are using?
  • Are these lights made by Google or work with Google Assistant?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

Most Lights and Plug Outlets only operate on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. I'm having the same problems recently because my Samsung Phone and my Google Mini just won't connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Signal. You can set your Wi-Fi router to transmit at 2.4GHz and try to link your lights. The device you want to setup the lights with has to be on the same Wi-Fi Network and 2.4GHz Band. My phone and Google Mini will only connect to the newer 5MHz Wi-Fi band so all my lights show as "Offline" I haven't made any changes to my Wi-Fi router recently and about 3 weeks ago everything stopped working. My Google Chromecast and Mini changed to using the 5GHz signal and I can't change them back. It looks like Google is going to stop supporting 2.5GHz devices and force us to purchase their new "Matter" line of products. You can Google the 2.5GHz - 5GHz issue and find a site that explains it further. It was such a pain to get everything sinked and working so maybe a "Industry Standard" is needed.
