Can’t Connect to Assisting Devices

I purchased a new Nest Doorbell (battery) and after 30 minutes on the phone we were able to determine that the doorbell I purchased was incompatible with older devices.  

Creating a new home and moving my devices is really not an option.  There are 43, after you factor in smart bulbs, including two thermostats, eight Nest Protects, and about a dozen routines.  With a 130 year old house, an older wired model is also not an option.

I’m kind of dead in the water.  I’m really disappointed with Google over what is clearly a failure of both engineering and customer communications.
