Chime for Nest Doorbell

I was thinking of getting the Nest doorbell wired version.  Looking at the specs it seems it does not come with a chime.  Is there any recommendation on which one to buy, or a certain type?  Thanks

@LK99

Do you not have an existing wired doorbell and an existing chime? If you do, the Google Nest Hello Doorbell (now called "Nest Doorbell wired) comes with a chime connector that connects to your existing chime. The Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) works with your existing chime but does not use a chime connector. (See this link for transformer requirements: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132?hl=en.)

For our unwired entrance, we bought a Google Nest Hello Doorbell (I think the Google Nest Doorbell [Battery] is a deeply flawed product), and then bought the OhmKat Video Doorbell Power Supply for the Nest Hello ($34.99) (available with US, UK, and EU plugs) and an Ohmkat Wireless Universal Video Doorbell Chime ($34.99) (available with US and EU plugs). These work with the Google Nest Hello Doorbell but do NOT work with the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery). You need to drill a 1/4-inch hole in your door frame to feed the wire to the doorbell, and you need an interior electrical outlet within 10 feet of your door or you will need to use an extension cord.

Or you can instead buy a Nest Hub or Nest Mini and turn on "Visitor announcements" to get alerts on the Hub or Mini instead of using a chime.

Thanks very  much for the explanation.  We are doing a renovation so our old chime is gone.  But it sounds like we could use the Nest Hello and have it wired in, and buy a new electronic chime to connect it.

Thanks!

Why do you say battery is deeply flawed? Just wondering as I was considering buying it. Ive had the wired doorbell now for 2 weeks and it doesn't work. It's offline with a little green light at the top. Spent hours talking to tech support. I was thinking of giving the battery a try.

@BlueNSX

Sorry to hear you're having problems setting up your Google Nest Hello Doorbell. We have three and have not had issues setting them up. Support should have been able to help you resolve the issue.

My opinion of the new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) is based on the following: 1) It's battery can't charge below freezing, which makes it a show-stopper here in Minnesota; 2) It cannot record 24/7 even when wired; 3) Numerous customers in this forum report issues with it being late to detect events because it always runs on battery power even when wired [it's in "Idle" mode when on battery power]; 4) Numerous other issues reported by customers in this forum.

Thanks for the information, really appreciate it. I live in Canada so cold weather issue you mentioned is a show stopper for me also.

 Google support finally concluded that my doorbell unit is fried. They had me connect it directly to a wall power unit using through the USB port, and it still did not have power. So I’m sending it back. (Not sure if my transformer was the cause of this, the doorbell did work for a couple of days).

i was about to order the doorbell battery, but after reading your post I changed my mind.

 Thanks

@BlueNSX

Google Nest published this after months of posts in this forum about cold weather charging. The battery doorbell always runs off of the battery even when it's wired, so if the battery can't stay charged, it won't work.
