Okey Google. Please hear me out.

At the moment we have 6 Google Wifi products, 1 Nest Mini, 1 Nest Hub and 1 Google Nest Doorbell on battery and one old Nest Doorbell on wire that broke. I even pay for Nest Aware. I consider myself pretty invested, but I am seriously considering to dump everything straight in the trashcan and never buy another Google Product again. And here is why:

On the last platform and through the Nest app, I could have a decent and calm chime when someone rang the door. Now, through the Google Home app, everything is completely silent and I get a notification on my phone, or I get an unsynced choir in the entire room that "Some is at my front door". Just give me my ding dong. Is that too much to ask for? And since it's a battery product, even though it's wired on the same cords as the last Nest Doorbell - it wont charge and it wont talk with the indoor chime.

Yes, I am aware that I can set all the other devices on silent. Yes, I am aware that I get a notification on my phone.

I have even tried the smart hub approach through Homey, to set up a flow that is trigged to cast a audio clip pretending to be "DING DONG" to the Nest hub, but then I don't get the video feed on my Google Nest Hub and four start stop casting sounds. Not a viable option either.

This is not good enough. This is your last chance. If you are not able to find a viable solution, you know your destiny.

Hi jonerik,

Thanks for posting. I understand that you would like to have a ding-dong sound on your Nest Doorbell (battery) as you have before on your Nest Doorbell (wired) and not just get the notification through the app or the "someone is at the door" from your Google speaker device. In this case, the Nest Doorbell battery does not use the same system as a wired one; the battery doorbell does not have the chime to produce the ding-dong sound that you are looking for. That's why it's necessary to connect it to a speaker to get a better notification experience for visitor announcements.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
Jenny

This is not the issue. I don’t need a physically wired chime; I just want to adjust the notification settings specifically for my Nest Speakers so that only one of them chimes with a "ding dong." The others should remain silent, which I have enforced on Do Not Disturb.

The current system is an unsynced mess. Additionally, the doorbell is wired for power, but it’s not charging — another major flaw in this "great" product. Please offer a real solution, or I’ll be forced to move away from the Google ecosystem entirely.

Hi jonerik,

Thanks for your replay and the information provided. I understand that you want to play the ding-dong sound on one of your speakers. In this case, if you have a speaker group, you will need to delete it and set up the speaker to get the notification sound, and after that, recreate the speaker group.

Here is how:
Delete a Speaker group:

  • Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your speaker, display, Google streaming devices, or Pixel Tablet.
  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings > Devices, groups & rooms > Speaker groups.
  • Select the group you want to delete.
  • Tap Delete group > Remove or Delete.

Set up the visitor announcement with your speaker device:

  • Open the Home app.
  • Tap and hold your device's tile.
  • In the top right, tap Settings > Doorbell.
  • Turn visitor announcements on or off.

Create your speaker group:

  • Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your speaker, display, Google streaming devices, or Pixel Tablet.
  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings > Devices, groups & rooms > Speaker groups > Create a speaker group.
  • Tap each device that you want to add to the group. A check will appear next to each selected device.
  • Tap Next > enter a name for your group > tap Save.

And about the battery problem that you see, I need to ask for some additional information:

  • Do you have a wired or a wireless setup?
  • Are you able to check the camera feed?
  • Did you receive any notification from the Google Home app?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?

Once I have this information, I can further assist you.

Please keep me posted and let me know if you have questions during the process.

Best regards,
Jenny
