Doorbell (battery) won’t charge

I have a google battery doorbell I’ve just inherited from family. It was flat when I got it and although the light flashes when plugged in it does not charge. I have removed from my family’s google home. I have tried a number of different cables and plugs. Same result on all. Any suggestions? I’ve assumed it’s out of warranty so no dice on that front.

@C-Mo

What are you using to try to charge it? The Google Store says: "Nest Doorbell (battery) Typical: It takes approximately five hours to fully charge the battery using a compatible 7.5W AC adapter (sold separately)." However, perplexingly, Google Nest does NOT sell any compatible 7.5W AC adapter for the battery doorbell.

I've used 7.5W AC adapter, 5W AC adapter and multiple cords but nothing. Can't find any explanation as to why it won't charge. Any help appreciated!

Hi C-Mo,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I’m sorry to hear about the situation. I’d like to take a look at this for you.

Have you checked your Nest Doorbell charging port to check for any possible dirt build up? If not, you can use a clean, dry cotton swab to clean it off.

I’ll look forward to your response.

Thanks for your help, @MplsCustomer

Thanks Zoe. Gave it a go- no change unfortunately. The odd thing is that the light blinks like it’s charging when I connect it to the USBC but it wont actually charge.

Hi there,

Thanks for the follow-up, and I appreciate the gesture. What type of LED light that blinks on your Nest Doorbell (battery)?

Zoe

I have. Still only get the flashing yellow/white light while it looks to be charging but clearly isn't. Can't get any activity other than that.

Sorry, also, when I do have the reset button depressed I hear nothing and the light doesn't change. So the two things it says will happen (below) don't happen:

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
