I just purchased the Google Nest Doorbell (battery) and when installing it, it seems that the doorbell isn’t comparable with the Nest app. Is that true? I don’t use the Google Home app and only purchased the doorbell thinking it was under the Nest umbrella. If it’s not compatible, why would you name it the Nest doorbell?

Unfortunately, all of the 2nd gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept. 2021 work only in the Google Home app and cannot be installed in the Google Nest app. We discovered this to our surprise when we bought the battery camera in Sept. 2021 (because Google Nest discontinued the Google Nest Outdoor Camera that month), and have been using BOTH the Google Nest app AND the Google Home app ever since.
As far as why they are all still named "Nest" cameras and doorbells, Google Nest would have to answer that.
If you want to use your new 2nd gen doorbell, you'll first need to "migrate" your Nest Account to a Google Account (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676?hl=en&sjid=12637901536747846833-NC). We did so in 2020 and have logged into the Google Nest app with a Google (gmail) Account ever since. You'll want to "migrate" BEFORE installing any Google Nest devices in the Google Home app, or your migration will be more complicated, as noted in the Help topic to which I linked.
