I Got Robbed!! - Camera NOT Triggered by Movement, Didn't Record Theft!!

Wow. So me and a bunch of neighbors got our vehicles broken into last night. My Nest cam points DIRECTLY at my vehicle's passenger door, is literally only a handful of feet away, and caught NOTHING.  No events recorded the whole night. Yet, my husband moving around in the exact area the thieves would have been in, was recorded.  WTH.  What's the point of having a camera, and paying a lot of money for a service, if it doesn't do what it's supposed to do...???

I'm at a loss as to why recording wasn't triggered....??  It's set to the default awake sensitivity (medium, which picks up movement from down the street but not right in front of it?). The thieves would have definitely been right in front of it, they got into my truck through the passenger door (the door was ajar the next morning), the camera points directly at the door.

Ugh. Very frustrating situation.

Hi LMat,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm really sorry that the Nest camera isn't detecting the event. I understand how frustrating this can be. Help is here.

Consider this: Your Nest camera's night vision setting might be affecting detection. Google Nest cameras’ night vision uses high-power infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the scene when it's dark. When night vision is set to auto, Nest cameras will wait to switch between normal and night modes based on ambient light changes. Some cameras might switch back and forth frequently in marginal lighting. So the IR LEDs might be reflecting off objects in the scene, making it difficult for the camera to detect motion.

We understand the importance of capturing events, especially for security purposes. Your feedback is really important to us. So please share your thoughts and inquiries so we can improve the Google Home app and Nest Services for future updates.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Byron
