I can’t install my new Nest Battery Doorbell on the Google Home App

Hello

I am trying to install a new Nest Battery Doorbell but the app won’t find it.

I have contacted Google support who suggested that if after charging for 5 hours, if I still don’t see a blue light after scanning the code and plugging it into power that I had a faulty doorbell. So I returned it to the store and they provided a new sealed replacement. But I still get the same response from the app.

I click to add a new Google Device, choose address,  then the app looks but finds nothing, then I scan the barcode, then agree to terms, then it asks me whether I have any more Nest products (no) and then I get a screen urging me to set up a Nest account (aren’t they now merged with Google accounts??). Then it says it cannot connect to cloud.

None of the screens below appear on any tutorial videos on the Google site or You Tube (and believe me I’ve watched them all).

Bluetooth works fine on my new IPhone 14 and also on my iPad - I’ve tried both. I have 7 Google speakers & a Google hub all working fine, and all of which took an easy few easy minutes to set up.

Anyone any ideas? Otherwise its going back to the store for a refund before I go completely crazy 😜

Thanks 🙂

See this thread.  I don't know if it's the right answer or not.  You could try installing the Google Nest app, creating a second Google Nest "home/structure" there, and then deleting it in the Google Home app.  From other threads, this gets the 2 apps to sync.  Then you could try installing again; I THINK you want to answer "Yes" so the doorbell is in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your other devices.

Ps I have installed the latest update to the iOS Google Home App on both my iPhone and iPad.

Your 7 Google Nest speakers and Google Nest Hub are Google Nest devices; have you tried answering "Yes" to the question?  You will want your doorbell to be in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your existing devices, so they can work together.

I don't know why the list doesn't include those devices.

Hello

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have tried answering yes to the Q, (I should have said), and when I do I get the last screenshot saying there is no connection to cloud.

Hello

YAY!! 👌👍🎉🥳

I can’t thank you enough. That has worked perfectly. I did as the thread you linked me to suggested and set up a new home and the doorbell set up straight away.

I then had two homes, but it was simple enough to transfer each device over to the new home by clicking into device info and change the allocated home and once they’d all been moved over I deleted the old home.

I then simply renamed the new home to the name of the old home! My routines seem to have magically transferred over anyway so I am all good.

Once again thank you so much for this. I wish I could buy you a beer !

Google software is pretty poor for this device and you shouldn’t have to set up a second home on a different (Nest) app just to install a doorbell and then move everything.

Have to say that Google’s customer service via the help desk is absolutely hopeless and I’m so glad I posted on this forum.

Thanks again.
