Light and specific zones

MORSTE

I've just set up my camera and  my house faces a quiet road. I currently have 2 zones, one for my driveway and the other for the road. Is it possible to make the camera activate the floodlight only on the zone that covers my driveway? I still want it to record events on the road but not activate the light for that zone?

Thanks

@MORSTE

We don't have a floodlight camera, but maybe you can turn off "Motion events" and turn on "Camera events".  See this Help topic:

I have done that but then it still detects events from both zones, I would like it to just activate the light in one of the zones if possible?

@MORSTE

Maybe someone from Google Nest Support will chime in here to explain how to get the lights to turn on as documented.

Hi MORSTE,

Thanks for reaching out to the community and to @MplsCustomer for jumping in! I understand you'd like your camera's floodlight to activate only for the driveway zone, while still recording events in the road zone. I'm here to help!

To find the best solution, I have some questions for you:

  • Just to confirm, are you using the Nest Cam with floodlight, or is the camera from another brand?
  • What's the approximate height where your camera is currently mounted?

Please keep me posted.

Sincerely,
Juan

Hi Juan,

Yes it's the nest cam with floodlight and it's height is approx 2.5mtrs.

Hi MORSTE,

Thanks for getting back to me! While there isn't a direct setting to link the floodlight to a specific motion zone, you can lower the overall motion sensitivity of your Nest Cam with floodlight. This will help the floodlight primarily activate when someone is closer to the camera, such as in your driveway, without constantly turning on for activity further down the road.

Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Tap "What turns on the floodlight."
  5. Tap the switch to turn Motion on.
  6. Set Motion sensitivity to Medium, or Low.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Juan
