Nest Cam Charging extremely slow in ambient indoor weather ( 21 C / 70F )

I  am recharging  my  Outdoor Nest Cam  for the  first  time  after 3.5 months from  the initial  first  charge. Using the charging  cable provided,  Its been 21 hours on charge and is only at 20%. (Usual 5 hours)

It is connecting to  WiFi  and working. Can anyone explain to me why this procedure  is so  slow?

Google Nest does not state this explicitly, but it seems the battery camera needs to be dismounted when charging the battery, and the charging cord should be plugged in with the cord feeding towards the FRONT of the camera.

It's different when the battery camera is plugged in with the optional power cable. We've had ours plugged in for over 2 years and it's been "Live" and charged the whole time.

Hey folks,

@Tiago1961, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’d like to chime in and see if you still need help with your Nest camera. Have you seen MplsCustomer’s last response? If yes, how was it?

Here are some tips to help you save battery life for Nest cameras and doorbells.

Keep me posted.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Lance

Hi,  Thanks for the  reply.

For  the  specifics, camera was dismounted  ( not the battery camera). This was charging  indoors. After  a  few  days  i did get a notice that  my camera was  fully  charged.  Never  was  able to see the  progression  of the charging. Absolutely does  not   make any  sense to me, but it  got  charged.  We  will  see in +- 3 months when i  have  to  do  this  again.

Cheers

Hi Tiago1961,

Thanks for the information. We're glad it’s been fully charged now, but it should show progress in the Google Home app even if it’s dismounted from the base. Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Best,
Edmond
