Nest Cam Outdoor Battery Charging Slowly

Louise-J
Community Member

I purchased a nest cam (battery) 3-pack in April and have charged each device without issue previously. Today's charge is taking over 10 hours and it's charging slowly with a message to use a compatible cable and adaptor. I'm using the cable and adaptor supplied with the cameras. I've seen there are other threads on this but would aprpeciate advice on how this can be resolved. Thanks.

Hi Louise,

Is yours plugged right into the wall socket? I had a similar thing happen with mine, but after a bit of trial and error, realised that the powerboard I had the charger plugged into was on it's way out. Once I moved it to the direct outlet it was back to normal.

Hi. It is plugged directly into the wall socket.

Some customers in this forum have had trouble getting their USB plug to seat correctly and make contact. Others have had their USB plug fall apart.

Other customers in this forum have reported defective 1-meter charging cords and have gotten them replaced.  Still others have not had their charging cord plugged into the bottom of the camera with the cord feeding towards the FRONT of the camera.

You could try contacting Support using the link and instructions in this post:

I noticed when I unplugged that camera that the silver part where you plug the camera in was a little loose so wonder if that caused the slow charge. I charged a different camera today and it took the usual amount of time. I'll try that other camera out another time.

Hello Louise-J,

Thanks for trying. If you still encounter the same charging issue on the other Nest camera even after connecting the USB charger cable correctly to the USB cable port, please try to do a factory reset on your Nest Camera Battery. Here is a link on how to do a factory reset on your Nest Camera.

I appreciate the help, @MplsCustomer and @Tomlykomg.

Best,
Edmond

Hello ss9,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, let me help you out. Have you tried doing a factory reset on your Nest camera and check if it still has an issue with the battery. Here is a link on restart or factory reset your Nest Camera.

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

Thanks, Edmond! I’m looking forward to seeing whether the replacement works. Just a note that it’s a bit disappointing that I had to post publicly to get a response, and that directly contacting support was ineffective. Some people may not be comfortable posting publicly.

I have this same problem every time I try to charge any one of my three cameras using either of the two supplied charging cables and adaptors I have. I noticed the problem the first time I had to recharge one of the cameras, and when I contacted google, they thought the problem was with the camera and not the charging cables, so they replaced the camera. The issue has been ongoing, but once I got around to contacting them again, they said they won’t do anything since the cameras out of warranty. Crazy that they haven’t fixed this well known issue with their chargers (the threads about it just keep getting closed out) and refuse to do anything about it. I’m not interested in buying a new cable every time I need to charge one of my cameras!
