Nest Doorbell (Battery) Ring In House?

Leond60
Community Member

I received a Nest Doorbell (Battery) for Christmas.  Installed it and connected to my iPhone with the Google Home app.  Everything appears to be working correctly.

The last thing for me to do is have the doorbell ring audibly inside the house.  I'm not sure what the easiest way to do this is.  The Nest Doorbell (Battery) is the only piece of Google hardware that I have.  My devices are Apple products which has the Google Home app running on them.

Would I be able to place a Nest Mini in the house and connect it to the Nest Doorbell (Battery) via the Nest Home app?  I'm thinking this might work but can't find anywhere to confirm.  Or is there a better way I'm not aware of?

Thanks, Leon

Yes, you can get a Nest Mini, install it in the same Google Nest "home/structure", and turn on "Visitor announcements" for your doorbell:

We get such announcements on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini.

Thanks again to MplsCustomer and EmersonB for the follow up.

The speaker arrived, was easy to setup and it works.

I do have one question though, The speaker sounds a chime when the doorbell is pressed and a voice announces that the front doorbell has been pressed.  Is there any way to keep the chime sound but lose the voice announcement?

@Leond60

There is no option to get just the chime sound and no voice announcement with "Visitor announcements", though customers in this forum keep asking for it.

Hello Leond60,

I appreciate the update and we're glad that it's working as intended. To answer your question about disabling the voice announcement, that feature is not available and that makes sense. I'd suggest you send yours with our Send Feedback form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this.

Best,

Emerson

Thanks again MplsCustomer and EmersonB.

I will send feedback as I see this as a critical shortcoming that could be easily remedied.

Funny how in our age of sophistication and automation, something like having the option to have a simple chime ring inside the house when a person pushes a button outside is undoable.
