Nest Doorbell Camera wired 2nd Gen

Had this doorbell for a few days now. Was hoping for a good product. But, like others it does not go into night mode when in the Auto mode. This is the second camera I ordered after the first one had same issue. They were Reset. It is dark out without much light. Without the night mode my porch is solid black. I have to manually select Always then switch back to Auto to have it go into night mode. My Arlo cameras nearby go into night mode. I think the sensors need improved. Maybe a firmware update would help. Not sure if that is possible. Will need to decide if I keep the camera. Disappointed. Wanted to try the Nest outdoor cameras. But, probably not now.

Do what the rest of us are doing; move to a company that actually supports their products. Google doesn't care about supporting anything after the check clears.

Don't be evil! Ha.

I tend to agree. I contacted them thru the Home App with the issue on the first Doorbell and no response. I got the  second doorbell, same issue. I think their night vision sensitivity needs a way to be adjusted. Don't want to manually turn on Night Vision every night.

@rugmankc

We have Google Nest Hello Doorbells and several old and new cameras. We've had only one where Night Vision didn't work, and we were able to resolve it simply by turning Night Vision off and then on again.

Since this is your second 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell where this has happened, you probably don't want to go through the hassle of a factory reset again. But you could just rebooting or restarting the doorbell by turning off the doorbell's circuit briefly.

If that doesn't resolve it, perhaps there's a defect in the 2nd Gen doorbells.

Thanks MplsCustomer. Did think about rebooting again. But, that screw is a pain for someone with arthritis in their hands. I will turn breaker on/off. Then reset one more time if needed. Don't want to return again thru Amazon. And, other than this issue I like the doorbell.

One addition, this morning all my previous events said no longer available. No recordings could be found. Eventually it corrected itself. Maybe Gen 2 "is" still a work in progress. I am on the trial Aware Subscription.

@rugmankc

By "reboot" I meant just turning the doorbell off via the breaker. Doing another factory reset if you did one on the previous doorbell seems like a pain unless you absolutely have to. Perhaps you'll get lucky and turning it off and on will help. And I have arthritis in my hands too, so I can sympathize; remounting the doorbells is a challenge.

Thanks. Yes, I did the breaker. Will have to wait till tonight.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

@rugmankc I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Doorbell? In case you have an update, you know where to find us.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure Night Vision is set to Auto.
  • Home app
    • On the home screen, select your Nest Doorbell.
    • Tap Settings> Tap Video.
    • Under Night Vision, select Always on, Auto, or Off.
  • Nest app
    • On the home screen, select  your Nest Doorbell.
    • Tap Settings>  Night Vision.
    • Toggle the switch to Off, Auto, or Always on.

      2. Check that outdoor lights don’t shine into  your Nest Doorbell lens. In some cases, bright lights can delay or prevent  your Nest Doorbell from switching to Night Vision.

      3. Reset your Night Vision settings or restart  your Nest Doorbell. Which method you’ll use depends on which app you use to set up your Nest Doorbell.

Home app: Go to  your Nest Doorbell settings and turn Night Vision off, then turn it back on.

Nest app: Unplug  your Nest Doorbell, wait 10 seconds then plug it back in. This will restart  your Nest Doorbell and reset the Wi-Fi connection.Hit this link for more information.

Let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

I have done these items. I believe the doorbell sensitivity is too high. But, can not be adjusted. Not sure if a software update can address this. As of now, I have to manually turn night vision from auto to always on then back to auto. Otherwise, it never goes to night vision. Not really acceptable. Otherwise, I like the doorbell. Maybe Google monitors this board and will   do something. It is pretty dark on my porch. Night vision should come on.

Hi rugmankc,

Thanks for getting back to us. To fully isolate this issue, try to reset your Nest Doorbell to the factory default. Remove and re-add it to your app. Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson

I removed doorbell and did a reset. Still no auto night vision. Now I have no Notifications. Went back over all settings multiple times. Just Live View.

Topic can be closed. Night Vision is what it is. Too sensitive on this Generation doorbell IMHO.

On my issue, after doorbell reset, of not getting Notifications, I resolved it. In Settings/Google and Google Home on my iPhone the "Allow Access to this Network" was unchecked. I checked them and all is well.

Also, the city just put 2 new LED bulbs in our current court lights. Very bright. I now have clear, beautiful Colored Night Vision. No need to turn on Night Vision. 🙂

Hello rugmankc,

Thanks for getting back to us and for sharing with us what you've done to resolve the issue. It's good to hear that your city put new LED bulbs in your area. We’ll consider this one complete so let us know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Thanks,
Emerson
