Nest battery doorbell notification on Chromecast with Google TV when it's rung

I've searched high and low but can't quite get to an answer on this one; hopefully someone can enlighten me.  I've got personal results & show proactively enabled on my Chromecast with Google TV.  I've got visitor announcements enabled on my doorbell.  I can stream doorbell video using my remote assistant button.

The ONE thing I can't figure out: is it possible, while I'm watching TV (via my Chromecast with Google TV), to get a notification on it when my doorbell rings?  It's not very useful to be watching a movie and have no notification pop up when the doorbell rings... I've got Google devices all over the house, but I can't hear them when I'm watching TV.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, you will not be able to cast the doorbell to the Chromecast/Google TV.  The "new" versions of the doorbell can only cast to a smart display screen, such as a Google Nest Hub.

For the record, the old Nest doorbell did cast to the TV and I have no clue why this feature is missing.

Hello Lopes86,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community. We understand if you want to get a notification when someone presses your Nest Doorbell. However, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature to the Nest app or Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

So, just to be clear, NONE of the Google doorbells support notifications on Chromecast with Google TV?  The doorbells only support notifications on Google minis and Google displays?

Thanks!

Thanks! HUGE bummer. Gotta have an additional Google device in my living room just to hear the freaking doorbell when I'm watching TV. Either severe lack of attention on Google's part or mad genius to make folks buy more devices. 🤔😉🤪

I still don't understand. Why then are there instructions on the Google Nest Help page for streaming your camera to a TV? My Sony TV has Chromecast built in, so why doesn't this work? What have I missed? Does the information on the Help page no longer apply?

Stream your security camera on TV using a speaker or display

Cast live video to your TV with your voice, from your Nest camera, or other compatible security camera. Use a Google Nest or Home speaker or display, and Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.

What you need

  • Compatible security camera
  • Google Nest or Home speaker or display
  • Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in

Step 4. Use voice commands to stream your security camera to your TV

To do this:

Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then:

Start stream

"Show [camera name]"

"What's on [camera name]?"

"[Camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

"Play [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

"Show [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

Stop stream

"Stop [TV or Chromecast device name]"
