Nest floodlight not charging

After 2.5 years of use without issue, my nest floodlight is having a problem. The app says the battery is dying and it does not give indication it is charging. This device has been directly powered since install and to my knowledge hasn't needed the battery besides brief power outages. What troubleshooting steps should I take? So far I confirmed with a voltage tester there is power going to the device. Also have tried restarting the floodlight and the power. Does anyone have ideas? It is a pretty expensive device including subscription to just die after a couple years. Hopefully that's not the case

Hi @Rt92!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconveniences that you’ve been experiencing with your Nest Cam with Floodlight. I understand the device has been working well for the last 2 years but suddenly received a message that says that the battery on the camera is draining even though it’s been connected all the time and you have already confirmed that it is receiving power with a voltage tester. You have also tried to restart the device, but the trouble persists. No worries, I’m happy to help you find a solution.

To further assist you, I need some extra information. Here are some questions for you:

  • What is the temperature in the place where the camera is located?
  • Have you checked for any corrosion in the cable that connects with the camera?
  • Do you see any light in the camera? If so, what is the color of it?

Over time, dust and dirt can build up on the pogo connectors, which can prevent charging. For this reason, I will suggest you use a clean, dry cotton swab to clean off any dirt build up on the pogo connectors.

Tell me how it goes.

Daniel.
