Outdoor camera not picking up people

MJ918

My outdoor camera on my front porch does not pick up people. I can walk out my door and it doesn’t acknowledge it. This has been going on for over a year. I have 5 outdoor cameras and this is the only one that misses things. Any suggestions?

Hi @MJ918!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconveniences that you’ve been experiencing with your Nest camera for the last year. I understand that your Nest camera is not detecting people; you can walk in front of the camera, but it will not detect you and won’t save any video. You also have other cameras that are working fine. No worries, I’m happy to help you find a solution.

In order to help you better, I need some extra information. Here are some questions for you:

  • What is the exact model of the Nest camera where you are having the issue?
  • Are you signed into the correct account?
  • Do you have any Nest Aware subscriptions?
  • How is the WiFi connection in that part of the house?
  • Does your camera detect any other type of event, like motion or animals?
  • Can you check the camera’s live feed?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

You can also check the next article for further information: Troubleshoot event video history

I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

My camera is the outdoor Nest Cam. Yes, I am signed into the correct account, I have 5 cameras. I do have a Nest aware subscription. I have fiber internet and I have a google extender within 10 feet of where this camera is installed. The camera does detect motion, but not animals or people. However, it started detecting people this morning. This has happened before and it works for awhile and stops. I have removed the camera from my account several times and added it back. I have adjusted the angle of the camera. I wish I had exchanged it when this started while I could.

Hi @MJ918!

Thanks for your reply.

I see that this issue has been happening for a while; it just started to detect people, but it will stop doing it in a couple of days as it did before. I understand that you have already tried some troubleshooting steps, but it is still having the same behavior.
