Updated Wi-Fi system can’t connect nest camera

PGRPeterson

We purchased a new router/modem and can not re-connect the nest camera with floodlight. We don’t have the QR code and can not find the 6 digit code on the back of the unit. Any ideas?

Not sure why connecting the unit to a new router/modem would be this difficult.

Thanks in advance.

Updating the SSID (network name) and password on Google Nest cameras and doorbells is a challenge. The easiest way is instead to configure your new WiFi router/modem with the same SSID (network name) and password as your old router/modem if you are able to.

This Google Nest video, starting at about 1:20, shows where the 6-character Setup Code is at the bottom of the floodlight camera:

Most new smart phones have a built-in magnifying glass app that can also turn the flashlight on the code is on or Nest or Google nest cameras you need to use a magnifying glass as it is very faint and small.  I would also suggest you take a photograph of the code and save it as well as label it just in case you ever need it and you can’t reach the camera to find the number again

Are you the original owner of this camera? If not, I would suggest you Factory Reset the Nest Cam with Floodlight first and then try again. I wanted to remind you of some Important things to know before you factory reset. After you factory reset your camera or doorbell:

  • Your camera will forget your Wi-Fi network name and password.
  • Your camera will be "Offline" in the app. You won't be able to use it until you remove it from the app and reconnect it.
  • Any custom camera settings will revert to default settings.
  • If you want to save any video footage, before you factory reset, create video clips or timelapses and download the files to your phone or computer.
  • If you have a Nest Aware subscription and you plan to continue using your camera or doorbell with the same account, do not cancel your subscription.
  • If you plan to get rid of your camera or add it to a new account, before you factory reset, cancel your Nest Aware subscription. After you cancel, your camera's entire video history, Activity Zones, and snapshots will be erased as soon as you remove your camera from the app. Once your video history and snapshots are deleted, they're gone forever. They cannot be recovered. We do not keep backups.

Important: Because a factory reset permanently erases the items listed above, we don’t recommend doing it as a troubleshooting step until you’ve tried restarting your camera and other troubleshooting options.

Best regards,

Brad.

Yea we are the original owners. All we did was get a new router/Wi-Fi system so we just want to link the new internet to the system.

You will want to Factory Reset all of your devices first, and honestly I would suggest going through this article on how to connect your Nest devices to a new wifi connection. Please let us know if you need further assistance!
